"Oh."
Watching Hudson leave the room, Nora took a small sip of water. Even though she had never been married, she had attended a few friends' weddings.
She had never seen a wedding where the bride wasn't present for the toasts.
Were the Lancaster family's rules different from everyone else's?
...
While the lounge remained peaceful and quiet, the banquet hall was bustling with lively energy.
Hudson led Grant and Sebastian around, toasting at every table.
It was supposed to be the groom toasting, but Grant and Sebastian ended up drinking most of the alcohol for him.
If someone who didn't know better walked into the hall, they might have thought those two were the ones getting married.
"The bride certainly acts like she's a big deal. She hasn't shown her face once. It's just the groom and his two friends doing the rounds. What kind of nonsense is this?"
"Exactly. In all my years, this is the first time I've seen a bride not even hold a glass. The Lancasters are spoiling her too much."
"Shh, keep your voice down. Her family is sitting right over there!"
The people at the next table gestured toward where Marcus and Penelope were sitting, a flash of disdain in their eyes.
Marcus frowned, a fine sheen of sweat breaking out on his forehead.
Their voices were kept incredibly low, but catching fragments of their words made him feel like he was sitting on pins and needles.
He shot Penelope a quick look and lowered his voice. "Penelope, go check on Nora. Tell her to come out and mingle. This is getting ridiculous."
Penelope's expression wasn't much better. She bit her lip in hesitation before standing up and heading toward the lounge.
The lounge was at the end of the banquet hall's side corridor. The door was slightly ajar, a sliver of warm yellow light spilling through the gap.
When she pushed the door open, Nora was sitting on the sofa, eating fruit. The train of her wedding dress was spread across the carpet like a blooming white flower.
"Mom? What are you doing here? Is it over outside?"
