That kind of marksmanship...
If they were living a century ago, she'd be prime outlaw material.
"Nora, have you shot a gun before?"
Nora shook her head. "Today was my first time."
Grant was silent for two seconds. He turned to Hudson. "Hudson, your wife..."
He gave a firm thumbs-up. "Is a badass."
Sebastian rolled his eyes. "Can't you think of a better word?"
"What's wrong with that word? It's concise. Straight to the point."
As they joked around, Hudson's phone buzzed.
He pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was a message from Jude.
[Drinks are ready. Come eat whenever you're done.]
Hudson slipped the phone back into his pocket and wrapped an arm around Nora's shoulders. "Let's go. Jude has dinner ready."
Grant hopped down from the truck bed and dusted off his hands. "Let's go, let's go. I'm starving."
...
The wooden cabin restaurant at the foot of the mountain was much more elegant than expected.
The entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows offered a sweeping view of the mountain landscape. The sun was dipping below the ridge, painting the sky in intense strokes of tangerine and bathing the interior in a warm, soft glow.
Jude was standing by the wine cabinet. Hearing their footsteps, he turned around, a faint smile on his lips.
"You made it. Take a seat."
He held up a bottle. "Bordeaux or Burgundy?"
Hudson pulled out a chair for Nora, waiting for her to sit before taking the seat beside her. "Bordeaux."
Jude nodded. He pulled another bottle from the cabinet and handed it to a waiter. "Let it breathe."
He walked over and sat at the table, directly across from Hudson.
Grant and Sebastian took their seats as well. The waiter poured their wine and discreetly stepped to the side.
"By the way, we have one more guest joining us today," Jude said.
Hudson raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
"You'll see when he gets here."
