Edmond's hand hovered in the air, his fingers trembling violently as he stared at her face.
Juliette? How the hell was it Juliette?
Last night's memories flashed behind his eyes. He had been absolutely certain it was Nora. He thought she had finally forgiven him, which was why he had lost all control, pouring out weeks of pent-up agony and desperation.
But... why was it Juliette?
Edmond yanked his hand back and threw off the covers, practically leaping out of bed. The violent movement shook the mattress, waking Juliette.
She groggily opened her eyes, blinked once, and then...
"Ahhh!"
A piercing, eardrum-shattering scream echoed through the room.
Juliette desperately yanked the sheets up, wrapping herself into a tight cocoon as she scrambled to the corner of the bed. Her eyes turned red, her lips quivered, and tears cascaded down her cheeks.
"Edmond... what... what did you do to me?"
Edmond stood by the bed, bare-chested, hastily pulling on his slacks. His face was a mask of pure, murderous rage. The muscles in his jaw ticked as his temples throbbed.
"Cut the act, Juliette. You walked in here yourself. Don't think I don't know exactly what game you're playing."
Juliette cried harder, her voice breaking into pathetic sobs. "I... I just heard a crash and came to check on you. I was worried you were hurt... I was just trying to help..."
"Help?"
Edmond let out a harsh, bitter laugh. He scooped his shirt off the floor and threw it on. "Do you think I'm an idiot? You know exactly what you slipped into that drink."
Juliette shrank deeper into the blankets, only her red, tear-filled eyes visible. Her lips trembled, but she didn't say another word.
