She couldn't finish the sentence, burying her face in her hands and sobbing as if her heart had been ripped in two. Her shoulders shook violently with every manufactured cry.
Diana's face cycled through shades of green and white. She turned to Edmond, her voice shaking. "Edmond, how... how could you do something like this? She is your sister!"
Edmond leaned against the wall, crossing his arms. He let out a cold, humorless laugh. "She drugged me."
"How could you say that?" Juliette cried out in mock horror. "I... I would never drug you! I only brought you that drink because I was worried about you. I was just trying to be a good sister, and you... you're framing me..."
"Enough!"
Arthur suddenly barked, cutting her off. "This never happened! We will never speak of this again!"
"Dad?!" Juliette looked up, utterly shocked. "How can you act like nothing happened? Edmond... he took advantage of me. He has to take responsibility..."
"Take responsibility?" Arthur's voice was dangerously low, rumbling like an active volcano. "And how exactly should he do that?"
Juliette stammered, intimidated. This was the first time she had ever seen this terrifying look on Arthur's face. He looked nothing like the warm, loving father she knew; he looked like a completely different person. She swallowed hard and forced the words out.
"By... marrying me, of course."
Arthur let out a sharp scoff. "You two are siblings. If you got married, the Sterling family would become a laughingstock."
Juliette panicked. "But I'm adopted! We don't share any blood."
"Then cut your ties with this family first," Arthur said coldly.
Juliette froze. "Dad... what... what are you talking about?"
