"Nora? What's wrong?" Marcus asked with concern.
Nora didn't have time to answer. Covering her mouth, she shot up from her chair and sprinted toward the bathroom.
The door clicked shut behind her. She leaned over the sink, dry-heaving violently, but nothing came up. Yet, the overwhelming wave of sickness refused to subside.
She turned on the faucet, splashing handfuls of freezing water onto her face. The icy drops dripped from her chin, but they did nothing to soothe the churning discomfort in her stomach.
"Nora?"
Penelope's voice echoed from outside the door.
Nora wiped her mouth, took a deep breath, and pulled the bathroom door open.
Penelope stood in the hallway. Her gaze swept over Nora's face before slowly dropping down to rest pointedly on her flat stomach.
Nora shifted uncomfortably under her stare. "Mom, what are you looking at?"
Penelope lowered her voice. "Nora, are you pregnant?"
The question caught Nora completely off guard, her instinct instantly screaming denial.
She knew her own body. The nausea was just severe motion sickness from Olive's chaotic driving. It had absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy.
Besides, Hudson always made sure to use protection.
But deep down, she also knew that no contraceptive was entirely foolproof.
What if...
The moment that thought surfaced, Nora's heart skipped a beat. An indescribable rush of emotion surged through her chest, like a frantic swarm of butterflies erupting in her stomach, leaving her dizzy and overwhelmed.
Seeing the shifting expressions on her face, Penelope's heart sank. "Are you really pregnant?!"
Nora opened her mouth, ready to deny it, when a shrill voice shrieked from the corner of the hallway!
