"Come in."

"Ms. Reed, there's a woman downstairs looking for you. She says she's your sister, Jade Reed. The front desk has already escorted her to the reception room. Do you want to see her?"

Nora frowned.

She hadn't expected Jade to actually show up at her office.

Remembering Marcus's phone call from earlier, she lowered her eyes and flipped to the next page of the proposal.

"No."

The assistant hesitated. "Then... should I tell her you're not in the office?"

"Yes."

The door clicked shut, and the office fell silent once more.

Nora turned a page, read two lines, and her phone vibrated again.

The caller ID read: Mom.

Her frown deepened.

What was with today?

Why was everyone deciding to bother her at the same time?

She didn't answer, placing the phone face down on the desk and returning to her documents.

The phone buzzed a few more times before finally falling silent.
