...
By the time they returned to Cloudwater Estate, it was late into the night.
When Nora stepped out of the shower, Hudson was leaning against the headboard, scrolling through his phone.
The warm glow of the bedside lamp cast striking shadows over the sharp, clean lines of his profile.
Nora climbed into bed, slipping under the covers and settling in next to him.
"Sleepy?" Hudson set his phone aside and pulled her into his arms.
Nora shook her head rapidly. "Not at all."
Hudson laughed softly. "What is it? Want a bedtime story?"
"I actually wanted to ask you something..."
"Go ahead."
She snuggled her face against his firm chest, then tilted her head up to look at him. "Do you not like kids?"
Hudson's body went rigid for a split second, the smile freezing on his face.
A moment later, his Adam's apple bobbed as he let out a faint murmur of agreement. "No. They're too loud."
"Oh..."
Nora sounded a bit deflated as she rested her head back on his chest.
A long silence stretched between them before Hudson finally spoke up. "Do you like kids?"
"I do."
Nora nodded, her bright, expressive eyes looking back up at him. "Hudson, let's have a baby. I promise I'll teach them well. I won't let them annoy you..."
His arm tightened around her. It took him a long time to give a low, raspy reply.
"Okay."
The night air outside the window was crisp and cool.
Nora quickly drifted off to sleep.
Hudson looked down at her, his gaze slowly tracing her features, lingering on her softly parted lips.
She was a very quiet sleeper, no kicking, no tossing and turning.
She was like a little kitten curled up in a nest, peaceful and serene.
