Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 419

Jude hadn't expected Nora to ask him such a direct question. He paused for a few seconds, carefully weighing his words. "I believe he does. It's just that Finnian... he's not exactly good at expressing himself."

He knew perfectly well that Finnian didn't harbor any deep, brotherly devotion toward his adopted sister, Liana.

In fact, he was somewhat resentful that she was occupying the space meant for his actual sister...

If Mrs. Fairchild hadn't fallen so gravely ill from the grief of losing her daughter, they never would have brought Liana home in the first place...

Liana's very adoption had simply been a desperate attempt to fill the agonizing void left by Evangeline.

A silent prayer that their true daughter would return to them...

For a proxy sister like that, Finnian certainly wouldn't compromise his own life and choices.

So, his decision to be with Sienna had to stem from genuine affection.

Nora frowned slightly. "Then how do you think someone should show they care, Jude?"

Jude was momentarily stunned, his gaze invariably locking onto her face.

The fluorescent lights of the hospital corridor were stark, yet they seemed to make her glow. Her bright, almond-shaped eyes were entirely captivating, so clear they practically reflected his own face.

Jude's Adam's apple bobbed as he instinctively looked away.

"I suppose... you naturally want to treat them well."

Nora nodded, a profound look settling over her features. "Then why do I feel like Finnian treats Sienna like garbage?"

Jude choked on his words, completely at a loss for how to respond.

He couldn't defend Finnian, mainly because he himself hadn't entirely figured out what it meant to truly care for someone...

The corridor fell into a heavy silence.

Neither of them spoke for a while. The only sound was the distant murmur of voices down the hall.

"Have you known Sienna for a long time?"

After what felt like an eternity, Jude broke the silence, his tone casual.

"Yeah, we grew up together." Nora paused. "We lived in the same neighborhood as kids. She's a few years older than me and always looked out for me."
