The next morning.
Morning sunlight spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows, brightening the living room of Cloudwater Estate.
Hudson sat on the couch with a document resting on his lap, twirling an unlit cigarette between his fingers.
He had just showered, his damp hair slicked back to reveal a strong forehead and sharp features. Any trace of exhaustion beneath his eyes had completely vanished.
"Boss, Grant is here..."
Arthur had barely finished speaking before the living room doors swung open.
Grant strolled in, clad in a casual burgundy suit. His dress shirt was unbuttoned at the top, offering a glimpse of the Latin tattoo inked along his collarbone.
He glanced at Hudson, pausing his steps as he narrowed his expressive eyes, sizing him up.
"Well, well..."
Grant dragged out the syllables, swaggering over to plop down onto the sofa opposite Hudson, immediately crossing one leg over the other.
"What kind of miracle cure did you swallow today, Hudson? You're looking awfully refreshed."
Hudson didn't even blink, his long fingers smoothly flipping a page of his document.
Undeterred, Grant leaned in closer, clicking his tongue. "The bags under your eyes are completely gone... Don't tell me you finally got some action?"
Hudson finally raised his gaze, throwing him an icy stare.
"Do you need something?"
"Can't I drop by just to visit?"
"Get to the point."
Grant dropped the playful act, getting straight to it. "Be honest with me, did Jade feed you some kind of love potion?"
Hudson arched a brow. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means..." Grant pressed his lips together, "I've heard things. They say Jade is average-looking at best and has a terrible reputation in our circles. She's arrogant, uneducated, and during her years studying in London, she did nothing but buy designer bags and hit the clubs. She hasn't accomplished a single thing."
Hudson didn't reply, simply picking up his coffee for a sip.
Seeing him remain quiet, Grant assumed he was actually listening and eagerly fueled the fire, his voice rising a notch. "I also heard she got into some petty rivalry at a charity gala last month and slapped a waiter in public. I have no idea why your grandmother picked her. Just because a fortune teller said she'd bring you luck?"
Noticing his escalating volume, Hudson frowned slightly. "Keep your voice down."
Grant froze. "Huh?"
"Someone is sleeping upstairs," Hudson stated, casting a glance toward the second floor.
