The distance between the two of them was wide enough to fit another entire desk, and both of their expressions were so impeccably calm that no one could find a single flaw.
But Gavin's gaze inevitably drifted to Nora's face...
Her lip gloss looked like it had been thoroughly ravaged, the edges noticeably blurred and smeared.
And Hudson...
There was a distinct smudge of dusty pink on the corner of his mouth, catching the light with a faint, telltale gleam.
Anyone with eyes could tell exactly what this married couple had been doing just seconds before the door opened.
“...”
Gavin's mouth twitched.
He silently looked away—these two really had been 'making out in broad daylight', and they were even trying to play it off like nothing happened.
Being legally married was truly a superpower.
They could do whatever the hell they wanted.
“Um, I... I should get going. You guys talk...” Nora quickly grabbed her insulated lunch bag, ready to bolt. She shot a fleeting glance at Hudson.
But when she saw the smear of pink lip gloss on his mouth, she wanted the ground to swallow her whole.
What was social mortification?
This was it!
Nora couldn't even bring herself to greet Gavin, Finnian, or the others. Her face burned crimson as she power-walked toward the door.
However, as she passed by Finnian, she caught a glimpse of the Woven Crimson Bracelet tied around his wrist...
It looked like it had a tiny gold bead attached to it.
Wasn't that...
She subconsciously wanted to take a closer look, but Finnian was already taking a seat on the sofa. Given her currently disheveled state, she was too embarrassed to linger. Keeping her head down, she hurried out of the office.
The moment she was out, Nora made a beeline for the adjacent restroom to fix her makeup.
Staring at her thoroughly ravaged lips in the mirror, she couldn't help but cover her face with her hands.
Ahhh!
She was absolutely mortified!
...
Back in the office, Hudson pulled a tissue from the box and casually wiped his mouth. When he glanced down and saw the pink smudge on the white paper, the corners of his lips curved upward. “Sorry about that. Excuse us.”
He said the words, but there wasn't an ounce of apology in his tone.
He looked entirely too pleased with himself, a far cry from his usual cold, untouchable demeanor. It was almost blinding.
Married men really were a different breed.
The way he shamelessly flaunted his affection was downright infuriating.
Gavin, Finnian, and Jude all felt like they had just been force-fed.
Grant's smile faltered. “Um... I... My dog is pregnant, right? I was just thinking that since Bane is going to be a dad soon too, we could pair the puppies up later. Then Mr. Lancaster and I would practically be family!”
“...”
Gavin stared at his idiot brother, desperately wishing he could pretend they weren't related.
How did the Hamilton Family produce such a moron?
Grant clearly felt the immense disappointment radiating from his brother. He slowly shuffled into a corner, doing his best to blend into the wallpaper.
Gavin stared at him for a few more seconds before sighing. “Sit in the corner and shut up. Don't cause trouble.”
Grant looked as though he had just been granted a pardon. He grabbed Sebastian and dragged him over to a small sofa in the back.
...
Meanwhile, in Northampton.
Liana had just stepped out of the shower, wrapped in a plush towel, when the phone on her vanity started to vibrate.
Seeing the caller ID, she frowned. Her finger hovered over the screen for a second before she finally swiped to answer. Pinning the phone between her ear and shoulder, she began drying her hair. “Didn't I tell you not to call me unless it's an emergency?”
The line was silent for a moment. “Ms. Fairchild, I've changed my mind. I don't want the rest of the money we agreed on. My plans have changed.”
Liana stopped rubbing her hair.
“What are you talking about?”
“I want to fulfill the engagement. I'm going to marry Jude Winslow.”
