As soon as the words left his mouth, Adeline's fingers paused on her teacup.
Spencer froze, instinctively looking up at Hudson.
He pressed his lips together, about to speak, when Adeline chuckled softly and nodded. "That is indeed true."
Hudson's heart slammed hard against his ribs, heavy and violent, as if it might break through his chest.
He tried his hardest to maintain a calm facade, but his fingertips trembled uncontrollably.
The Ivory Pill...
It really was with the Sawyers!
His Adam's apple bobbed as he fought to steady his emotions. "Adeline, to be completely honest, I am in desperate need of this Ivory Pill right now. If you are willing to part with it, name your price. I'll agree to anything."
Sitting nearby, Spencer frowned slightly, looking as though he desperately wanted to say something but was holding back.
He opened his mouth, but before the words could come out, Adeline spoke first. "Mr. Lancaster, let me think about this for two days. Stay in Chicago a bit longer, and I'll give you an answer then."
Hudson frowned. He wanted the Ivory Pill right this second.
But he also knew that since the Sawyers had it, he had to play by their rules...
"Alright. I will return in two days to bother you again."
Adeline smiled and nodded. "Spencer, see Mr. Lancaster out."
Seeing Hudson and Nora stand up, Phoebe's eyes darted around. She immediately cozied up to Adeline, linking arms with her again. "Adeline, let me be completely transparent with you. Nora is my biological cousin. If you do us this favor, the Vaughn Family will owe you a massive debt of gratitude."
She placed heavy emphasis on the words 'biological cousin'.
Adeline looked momentarily stunned. "Alright..."
Standing on the sidelines, Spencer felt his heart skip a beat. The invisible tension in his chest pulled tighter.
A favor from the Vaughn Family.
In Chicago, the Vaughn name carried more weight than all the gold and diamonds in the world.
Initially, he had assumed Hudson's influence was the sole reason both Vincent and Phoebe had agreed to accompany him.
After all, the two were legendary rivals. If they saw each other, they would fight. The fact that they were sitting at the same table peacefully was already a miracle.
But listening to Phoebe's subtle threat, Spencer realized that Hudson wasn't the main focus of this visit at all.
The real focus was the woman standing next to him...
Spencer's gaze shifted to Nora. His mind spun with rapid calculations, but his face remained perfectly composed. "Mr. Lancaster, Mrs. Lancaster, right this way..."
Spencer walked them all the way to the main entrance, watching the dozens of black SUVs merge into traffic. Only when the taillights of the final car vanished around the corner did he retract his gaze and hurry back to the main hall.
