Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 738

"You don't know?" Hudson's heart sank.

Jude shook his head immediately. "No... Wait, isn't the Ivory Pill a legendary panacea said to bring the dying back to life? I always thought it was a myth..."

"Go back and ask Elias Winslow. He might know..." Hudson's tone was deadly serious. "This Ivory Pill is extremely important to me. If the Winslows are willing to part with it, name your price."

Jude frowned. He had known Hudson for years and had rarely heard him use that kind of tone.

"Alright. Leave this to me. I'll go ask my grandfather."

A faint smile appeared on Hudson's lips. "Thanks."

"Don't mention it." Jude picked up his tea again and took a sip. Wanting to lighten the mood, he added, "By the way, have you spoken to Professor Campbell lately? He called me a couple days ago complaining that you didn't even visit him for the holidays. Said you were a terrible student."

Hudson smiled and shook his head. "I had no choice. Too busy..."

They chatted for a little while longer. Realizing it was getting late, Jude set his cup down, grabbed his coat, and stood up. "Alright, it's late. We'll catch up another time... I'll ask my grandfather about the Ivory Pill for you. I'll call you the moment I have news."

Hudson stood up as well. "Alright. I'll wait for your good news."

Jude escorted them to the door.

The cold night wind rushed down the corridor. Jude stood in the doorway, watching Hudson and Nora walk away side by side. His gaze lingered on Nora's back for a fraction of a second before he forced himself to look away and head toward his car.

...

The night deepened.

The winter air in Northampton was bone-chillingly dry, the wind cutting across the face like tiny blades.

When Jude's car pulled up to the Winslow estate, the lights in the guardhouse were still on.

Hearing the noise, Alfred the butler hurried out. Seeing Jude, he paused in surprise. "Mr. Winslow? Why are you back so late?"

"Is my grandfather asleep?"

"Not yet. He was just reading in the study." Alfred stepped aside. "Come inside quickly. It's freezing out here."

Jude stepped over the threshold, walking through the winding corridors until he stopped outside the study.

A sliver of warm yellow light spilled from beneath the door.

He raised his hand and knocked twice.

"Come in."

Jude pushed the door open and saw Elias Winslow sitting behind his massive desk, holding a thread-bound book, reading glasses perched on his nose.

Elias looked up and set the book down. "Why are you here so late? Did something happen?"
