Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 744

Arthur had spent years managing their overseas mining operations, navigating the industry with ease. When River took over, the business only became more lucrative.

They had been back in the country for less than a month. How could everything collapse so fast?

"It looks like the Sawyer family is making a move against us..."

The voice on the phone sounded frantic. "Mr. Lancaster, did you offend the Sawyers recently? Their mining empire dwarfs ours. We can't afford to cross them..."

The Sawyer family?

Arthur's heart plummeted.

He knew the Sawyers had recently partnered with Hudson...

Could this be Hudson's doing too?

He had always assumed Hudson's reach didn't extend overseas—or at least, that he wouldn't intentionally disrupt their international mining operations. But he had been dead wrong.

His entire foundation was built overseas, and the mines were his lifeline.

If the mines went under, his whole family would be left with nothing!

River!

What the hell did he do to piss Hudson off?!

To provoke Hudson into unleashing this kind of power against them!

"Alright, I understand." Arthur forced the words through clenched teeth. "I'll fly back in a few days."

He hung up and stormed out of the hospital room.

River's room was on the floor above. Pushing the door open, Arthur found him standing by the window, deep in conversation on his phone.

Hearing the intrusion, River glanced over. Seeing Arthur's furious expression, he frowned and muttered into the receiver, "Mr. Fairchild, think about the rest of the plan and get back to me..."

As River ended the call, Arthur marched up to him, demanding sharply, "Who were you just talking to? Mr. Fairchild? Which Mr. Fairchild?"

River clearly had no intention of explaining himself. "Is there a problem?"

"Did you provoke Hudson again recently?"

At the mere mention of Hudson's name, anger flared in River's chest. The burns on his legs hadn't fully healed, and the constant pain was a blistering reminder of exactly what Hudson had done to him.

River scoffed coldly. "Just because you don't have the spine for revenge doesn't mean I don't."

"I knew it was you!" Arthur's face flushed bright red. "Do you realize Hudson has already moved against our overseas mining operations?!"

"What?"

Arthur was too exhausted to argue further. "Pack your things. We're leaving shortly. We have to go clean up the mess you made at the mines!"

"Leave if you want, but I'm staying right here!"

River practically gnashed his teeth.

"If Hudson is retaliating, it proves I'm on the right track. He's only lashing out because he's desperate!"
