Inside the conference room of the Lancaster Research Lab, Professor Douglas Campbell was still endlessly lecturing about how Apex Research Co. had completely disrupted the industry landscape.
Hudson Lancaster leaned back in his chair with his long legs crossed, his fingers tapping a rhythmic, absentminded beat against his thigh.
His gaze had already drifted to the overcast sky outside the window, his mind clearly miles away.
"...Which is why we have to finalize the core algorithm within a month. Otherwise, this entire project will be completely choked out by Germany!"
Halfway through his sentence, Douglas noticed Hudson staring out the window. Frowning, he barked, "Hudson? Are you even listening?"
Hudson finally pulled his gaze back and gave a careless nod. "Yeah, I'm listening."
"Then repeat what I just said," Douglas demanded, clearly unconvinced.
"I forgot."
Just as Douglas was about to explode, Hudson slowly sat up straight and rapped his knuckles against the table. "Professor Campbell, is there anything else? If not, I need to go home to my wife."
"..."
Douglas felt the air leave his lungs, nearly having a stroke on the spot. "Can you focus on what actually matters? You can spend time with your wife whenever! Right now, the most critical thing is getting the Vanguard TBM Chip finalized!"
Hudson stood up, a wicked, careless smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "Professor, I only have these two months left to spend with her. After that, I won't have the chance even if I wanted to."
Douglas froze, his face etched with absolute confusion. "What is that supposed to mean? Where are you going in two months?"
Hudson, who was already at the door, glanced back over his shoulder. He flashed a heartless smile. "To hell."
The conference room plunged into a dead silence.
It took Douglas two full seconds to process that. Snatching a folder off the table, he hurled it straight at Hudson. "What kind of garbage are you spouting during the holidays?! Take it back! I'm still counting on you to read my eulogy!"
Hudson sidestepped the flying folder effortlessly. Without looking back, he raised a hand in a lazy wave and walked out. "I'll pass. You'd better count on Jude Winslow to read your eulogy."
"You brat!"
...
Meanwhile, at the Cloudwater Estate.
As soon as Nora stepped into the backyard, she heard Olive yelling at the top of her lungs, "Archer! She had them! She had the babies! Come look!"
Standing a short distance away, Archer looked exasperated. "The way you're screaming, people would think I just gave birth..."
"Shut up and get over here!"
Olive turned, spotted Nora, and immediately waved her over. "Mrs. Lancaster, hurry! Come look at the puppies!"
"She had them?" Nora's eyes lit up as she hurried over to take a look.
