Soren lowered his voice. "Jude Winslow has been secretly investigating Cyrus Winslow's old records these past few days. He even dug up his old hospital records..."
Nora's brow furrowed slightly—she had guessed right.
Jude had definitely sensed something was wrong.
It seemed he had already figured out that The Ivory Pill might still be in Elias Winslow's hands.
And Elias clearly knew Jude was snooping around, which was why he had eagerly jumped out to negotiate terms with her.
What was he afraid of?
Was he afraid that Jude would demand The Ivory Pill from him to save Hudson?
If that was really the case...
Nora arched an eyebrow.
Elias had only commanded her not to tell Hudson or Jude about the deal, but he hadn't said anything about Jude bringing it up to her first. If that happened, it wouldn't be her breaking the rules.
Jude definitely knew the inside story.
She needed to use him as her breakthrough point.
After all, the so-called 'arranged marriage' from their childhoods was nothing more than a joke. It couldn't be taken seriously.
She assumed he definitely wouldn't want to go through with it. After all, she was a married woman, and her husband was his good friend.
There was no way Jude would agree to it.
Elias was practically digging a hole for his own grandson.
With Jude's character and wealth, what kind of amazing woman couldn't he have?
Why was the old man so stubbornly fixated on forcing him to marry her?
Elias was clearly losing his mind in his old age.
With that thought, Nora immediately pulled out her phone and dialed Jude's number.
The call was answered after two rings. Jude's familiar, gentle voice came through, though it carried an imperceptible edge of tension. "Mrs. Lancaster?"
"Mr. Winslow, I hope I'm not interrupting anything?"
"Not at all..." Jude denied almost instinctively.
Realizing his tone was a bit too eager, he pursed his lips and forced his voice to even out. "Did you need something, Mrs. Lancaster?"
Remembering the rules Elias had set for her, Nora answered his question with one of her own. "Mr. Winslow... isn't there something you need to tell me?"
At those words, Jude's heart skipped a beat.
For a moment, his heartbeat thundered so loudly in his ears it was deafening.
He instinctively covered the receiver, terrified that the woman on the other end of the line would be able to hear it.
It took him a long while to clear his throat and force his thoughts into order.
This was the first time Nora had ever called him of her own volition.
He knew she wouldn't just call him for no reason.
Even though her number had been saved in his phone all this time, he had never once dared to dial it...
Thinking of the only possible reason, he let out a faint, almost imperceptible sigh. "Did my grandfather call you?"
