Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 760

The flame flickered between his fingers, reflecting the sudden shift in his eyes.

He lowered his head, lit the cigarette, and took a deep drag. A plume of smoke slowly drifted from his nose.

"Is this chip really that important?"

"Yeah. It's a matter of life and death." Hudson's tone was as casual as ever, but Hunter could tell he wasn't joking.

When Hunter didn't answer, Hudson continued, "Besides, you didn't even come back for my wedding. It's time you properly met my wife... Oh, and Leo is working for her now. If you don't come back soon, Leo is going to completely forget what his own brother looks like."

Hunter went silent for a few seconds.

Ever since the day he came out, the Hamilton family had practically treated him as if he didn't exist. He hadn't been back in eight full years.

Leo had just been a kid back then. Now, he was an adult...

He really was on the verge of forgetting what his older brother looked like.

"...Alright." He exhaled a cloud of smoke. "I'll fly back in a few days."

"Are you coming back alone?"

Hunter paused. "Who else would I bring?"

"What about your friend there?" Hudson asked casually. "Why not bring him along? It's the perfect time to meet the family."

Hunter froze for a second before realizing what Hudson was insinuating. He let out a laugh and cursed. "Damn it! Hudson, he's just a friend. Don't overthink it."

Hudson smiled, not pushing the issue. "Suit yourself. Call me when you land. Come crack this chip for me first. It's urgent."

"Got it."

After ending the call, Hudson slipped his phone back into his pocket. As soon as he looked up, he saw Douglas leaning practically across the desk.

"That... that guy..." Douglas pointed a shaking finger at the darkened phone screen. "Was that Vincent? The Duke's son we were just looking into? My eyes weren't playing tricks on me, right?"

"Yeah, that was him."

Hudson leaned back in his chair and chuckled. "It really is a small world."

With that, he popped the chip out of the card reader and slipped it into his pocket. "Alright, I'll leave the rest of the lab stuff to you, Professor. I'm going home to my wife."

Douglas: "..."

He instinctively opened his mouth to hurl a string of curses, but swallowed them down at the last second.

Fine! The man was going home to his wife...

As a lonely old bachelor, he didn't exactly have a wife waiting for him anyway.

Whatever, he might as well stay here and work himself into the ground...

...

At the Cloudwater Estate.

The local anesthetic on Nora's lower back had almost completely worn off, and a dull, throbbing pain was beginning to set in.

Just then, Olive sent over some photos and videos of the puppies. Nora lay on her stomach, tapping them open one by one. Seeing the tiny, soft pups huddled together and listening to their delicate, high-pitched whines, her heart instantly melted into a puddle.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated with an incoming call. She glanced at the caller ID—Elias Winslow.

Her heart dropped.
