The sky had already darkened by the time Hudson Lancaster returned to Cloudwater Estate.
As soon as he stepped into the living room, Nora Reed heard the commotion and hurried over to greet him. "You're back."
A faint smile touched Hudson's lips as he took her hand. "How's the wound?"
"A little itchy..."
"That's normal." He immediately picked up the ointment and cotton swabs from the coffee table. "Sit down. I'll change your dressing."
Nora obediently sat beside him and lifted the hem of her shirt to expose her lower back.
Hudson carefully peeled back the gauze. The edges were slightly red, but the wound was healing beautifully. The stitches were neat, with no signs of swelling.
With a dab of ointment on his fingertip, Hudson gently applied it over the slender incision. "Does it hurt?"
"Not at all."
Nora turned her head and saw his eyes brimming with heartache. She quickly changed the subject. "By the way, have they cracked the Vanguard Microchips yet?"
"Not yet." Hudson replaced the gauze, pressing lightly on her waist with his fingertips. "But I brought in a top-tier expert. He should be able to crack it."
"An expert?" Nora looked at him, her bright almond eyes wide with curiosity. "Who?"
"Hunter Hamilton."
Nora blinked, taking a moment to process the name. "The Hamilton family? Grant and Leo's older brother?"
"Yeah." Hudson capped the ointment and casually tapped her nose. "You've never met him. He's been living abroad for years. You wouldn't know this, but back in the day, he was quite the legend in San Francisco..."
Nora instantly perked up, her face filled with gossip-hungry excitement. "What kind of legend?"
"Put it this way," Hudson mused. "Out of ten scandalous rumors in San Francisco's elite circles back then, eight of them involved him. He was always on the front page."
Nora was mesmerized. "The front page? How did he manage that?"
"He likes men."
"..."
Given the San Francisco media's notorious appetite for sensationalism, the mere mention of a same-sex scandal was enough to dominate the headlines—and the Hamilton family's prodigal son was no exception.
But...
"Isn't sexual orientation a private matter? How did the public find out?" Nora frowned, her curiosity piqued. "Was he caught in bed with someone?"
"Close enough." Hudson smiled, deliberately teasing her.
"Ah?! Seriously?"
