Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 768

Xavier tried to pull away but failed. He eventually let her drag him into the club.

Vincent had been standing on the steps, watching the drama unfold. But as he watched Nora pull Xavier inside, he couldn't help but frown.

Tch...

Why is this kid so damn annoying!

Whatever, it's none of my business!

He scoffed and tugged on Hunter's sleeve. "Hunter, I'm tired. Let's go."

Hunter glanced at him, noting his exhaustion, and nodded. He tipped his chin toward Hudson. "Hudson, we're taking off. We'll catch up another day."

Hudson looked back and gave a slight nod. "Sure. Keep in touch."

Before getting into the car, Vincent took one last look at the club entrance.

In the night shadows, Nora was pulling Xavier inside, her profile bathed in the soft, warm glow of the lights.

Vincent stared at them for two seconds before withdrawing his gaze and opening the car door.

The car soon left the Argent Club's parking lot, merging into the night.

Vincent leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms, looking utterly miserable.

Hunter shot him a side-glance. "What's wrong? You were fine during dinner."

Vincent looked away. "Nothing."

Hunter raised an eyebrow but didn't pry.

But Vincent couldn't hold it in. "Who was that kid just now?"

"I don't know..." Hunter shook his head. He hadn't been back in eight years; he didn't recognize everyone. "From the looks of it, probably Nora's younger brother, right?"

If it had been some random guy, Hudson would have chopped his hands off by now!

"Her brother?"

Vincent frowned. For some reason, an inexplicable sense of irritation flared in his chest.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing..." Vincent turned his head to stare out the window, forcing down the displeasure in his heart.

...

Inside a lounge at the Argent Club, Nora was using a cotton swab dipped in iodine to carefully clean the cut on Xavier's lip.

Xavier sat on the sofa, his head turned slightly, staring blankly at a cup of tea on the coffee table. He refused to look at her.

Nora's movements were incredibly gentle. When the swab touched the edge of his wound, his eyelashes fluttered, but he didn't make a sound.

"What happened? Why were they targeting you?" Nora discarded the swab and grabbed a fresh one.

Xavier pressed his lips tight, refusing to answer.

He couldn't exactly tell her that ever since the news broke that she was the Fairchild Heiress, people started spreading rumors that his mother, Penelope, was a human trafficker...

And that wasn't even the worst part.

The Reed family's business had always relied on Hudson's influence. People only gave Marcus a seat at the table because of Nora's connection to the Lancaster family.

So, when it was revealed that Nora wasn't Penelope's biological daughter, everything fell apart.
