"Professor, did you touch this?"
Professor Campbell gave a dry laugh and rubbed his hands together, his wrinkled face displaying a rare look of guilt. "I was just... curious. I wanted to see what Felix left behind, so I gave it a try."
Hudson slowly approached the desk, bracing both hands on the edge. He glanced down at the screen, then looked back up at Campbell, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Did you really think my mother-in-law would use your iris to secure her files?"
Campbell choked on the words, his face losing its composure. He stiffened his neck and shot back, "You never know! What if she was guarding against outsiders and left a backdoor open?"
"And you think she considered you an insider?"
"..."
Campbell nearly lost his breath at the retort, his face flushing crimson. "You... you brat! I was just anxious for the two of you!"
Hudson cast a leisurely glance at him and didn't bother arguing. His eyes fixed on the red text on the screen, and he stated flatly, "You've already wasted one attempt. If my wife can't unlock it, we'll only have one shot left."
"You want to use the second attempt on Nora?"
Hudson raised a brow. "Why? Is there a problem?"
"Of course there's a problem!"
Campbell frowned deeply. "How old was Nora back then? Barely two, right? How could Felix possibly store something so vital under the same lock and key?"
"Why wouldn't she?" Hudson smirked.
Campbell scoffed. "If Nora can unlock this, I'll do a handstand and eat—"
The word 'eat' barely slipped out before the computer let out a crisp click, followed immediately by a robotic female voice echoing from the speakers.
"Iris verified. Unlocked successfully."
The office fell dead silent.
Campbell stood there with his mouth hanging open, the second half of his sentence lodged in his throat. He looked like someone had hit the pause button, his expression completely frozen.
Hudson wasn't the least bit surprised. He glanced at the equally stunned Nora and smiled softly. "Good job, honey."
Nora blinked, finally processing what had happened. "It really was my iris..."
Campbell found his voice at last, looking as if he'd swallowed a lemon. "How... how is this possible? Nora was barely two years old! Why would Felix use her iris as the verification key?"
Hudson shot him a look. "Why not? Even at two years old, she was her flesh and blood. She wasn't an outsider."
Campbell was speechless.
