Before they knew it, the end of the month arrived.
The March wind in Northampton carried a lingering, biting chill, though the sunlight was notably warmer than in the dead of winter.
On the private jet, Hudson sat in front of a sprawling document, its pages crowded with complex formulas and blinding arrays of parameters.
Over the past few days, he had poured nearly all his energy into the integration of the Vanguard TBM Chip and the RLG technology.
By next month, Lancaster Group was set to announce its leap into a hyper-accelerated era of TBM chip development.
And the catalyst behind all of it was Nora.
Hudson instinctively glanced over and realized she had fallen asleep.
The light pouring through the cabin window cast a warm glow across her face. Her eyelashes rested heavily on her cheeks, her breathing soft and rhythmic.
Not wanting to wake her, he gently reached over and pulled the shawl that had slipped off her shoulder back up.
"Boss, we're landing," Olive O'Neil whispered, poking her head from the front row. Seeing Nora sound asleep, she quickly ducked back down.
The movement gently roused Nora.
"Hmm? Are we here?"
Hudson chuckled softly, reaching out to brush a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "Yeah, we're here."
Just as he spoke, the jet touched down smoothly, coasting down the runway before coming to a halt at a private tarmac.
The cabin doors opened, and Northampton's dry, brisk wind blew in, carrying the bright sunlight but stripping away the last traces of the cabin's warmth.
Nora instinctively pulled her coat tighter, surprised by how cold March still was in the northern city.
Just then, a sudden warmth enveloped her shoulders as a suit jacket, carrying the crisp scent of mint, was draped over her.
"Your brother is here to pick you up."
Hudson pointed toward the arrivals area. Nora blinked and followed his gaze.
Parked near the edge of the tarmac were two black sedans. Finnian Fairchild leaned against the door of the first car, the collar of his overcoat snapping in the wind. With his hands shoved in his pockets, he was looking right at them.
Nora smiled and finally descended the stairs with Hudson.
Finnian walked up to meet them. His eyes first swept over Nora's face, ensuring she looked healthy, before shifting to Hudson. "Smooth flight?"
"Yeah." Hudson kept one hand casually in his pocket while the other naturally wrapped around Nora's waist.
"Let's go. We'll talk in the car."
Finnian stepped aside, waiting for Nora to slide into the back seat before shutting the door. He walked around to the passenger side and got in.
The convoy left the airport, merging into the afternoon traffic of Northampton.
