Hudson arched a brow but didn't correct him.
Time ticked by slowly.
After what felt like hours, Wilson finally straightened up, pulling off his hard hat to reveal a mess of sweat-dampened silver hair.
"Mr. Lancaster, the preliminary core samples are ready."
Grant immediately jumped off the boulder and sprinted over. "What's the number?!"
Wilson handed the rugged tablet to Hudson. "Based on the vein trajectories and the purity of the initial samples... a highly conservative estimate puts the deposit at over two thousand five hundred tons."
The entire quarry fell dead silent.
The only sound was the low, rumbling hum of the idle drill echoing across the desolate valley.
Grant's mouth dropped open into a perfect 'O'. It took him a full ten seconds to find his voice. "...How much?"
"Over two thousand five hundred tons," Wilson repeated clearly. "And that is just the preliminary estimate. As we drill deeper, that number will almost certainly increase."
Grant stood frozen in place, his brain completely short-circuiting.
Was this a joke?!
Over two thousand tons?!
That yield would easily place The Aurora Gold Deposit among the top-ranking mines on the entire planet.
He suddenly remembered bragging about his three-hundred-ton silver mine during dinner.
His entire silver reserve was barely a fraction of this gold deposit.
And the market value of gold completely obliterated the value of silver!
Hudson, however, couldn't care less about Grant's existential crisis. He gave Wilson a cool, approving nod. "Excellent. Lock the data down immediately. No one speaks a word of this. I'm doubling your agreed-upon rate, and I want an ironclad non-disclosure agreement signed by every member of your team tonight."
