Nora only wanted to laugh.
She had known what it meant to be truly cherished, so she knew what real love looked like.
"I'm done," Nora said, slowly standing up. "If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving."
Henry was taken aback. "You barely touched your food." He glanced at the table loaded with dishes. "Have a little more."
"No thanks."
Nora grabbed her purse and walked toward the door.
Henry followed her for a few steps. "Evie, think carefully about what I just said when you get back..."
Nora paused briefly, then pushed the private room door open and stepped out.
Soren and Olive O'Neil were standing guard right outside. Seeing her emerge, they immediately stepped forward.
"Back to the hotel."
"Yes, Ms. Reed."
Henry stood in the doorway, watching Nora's silhouette disappear around the corner. The smile completely vanished from his face.
Graham Fletcher finally stepped forward. "Mr. Fairchild, she... seems different from before."
Henry's expression darkened. "You are who you associate with. Spending all that time with someone like Hudson Lancaster, how could she turn out well?"
When he first found out Nora was Evangeline, his immediate realization was that Hudson had somehow become his son-in-law.
A man like Hudson was arrogant and aloof; he would never give his father-in-law the slightest ounce of respect.
In Henry's eyes, Hudson couldn't even compare to a fraction of Jude Winslow.
But they had been a step too late.
Even if they had found Nora a year earlier, she never would have married Hudson.
But it was too late for regrets now.
Graham pressed his lips together. "Actually, sir, there's another way to get the Aurora Gold Deposit..."
