"Hudson!"
Vincent's furious voice echoed through the speaker. "What the hell is this?"
Hudson leaned back into the sofa, resting one arm on the armrest, his tone completely flat. "What is what?"
"Did you fly back? Weren't you supposed to have dinner with my mother?!"
"..."
Hudson rubbed his temples.
He finally remembered. He had indeed promised Vincent he'd have dinner with the Duchess of Blackwood.
But between the crisis at the mining company, Elias Winslow's heart attack, and the theft of the Ivory Pill, he had completely forgotten.
When Hudson didn't reply, Vincent's tone grew sharper. "I've been waiting here like an idiot! If Hunter hadn't told me you were already back in the country, I'd still be..."
Before he could finish, Hudson cut him off calmly. "My apologies. An emergency came up at home. I had to leave immediately and didn't have time to let you know."
Vincent pursed his lips. Since Hudson had actually apologized, making a bigger deal out of it would make him look unreasonable.
"When are you coming back?"
Hudson frowned. If Henry hadn't pulled this stunt, he would have detoxed and headed straight back to Australia.
After all, this was the first deployment of the Lancaster Group's Vanguard TBM Chips. He needed to monitor the data in person.
But now...
"Next month."
Vincent rubbed his forehead in sheer frustration. "Are you kidding me? It's the beginning of the month! Your gold mine just started operations, and you're just abandoning it?"
"How about you keep an eye on it for me?"
"..."
Vincent scoffed in disbelief. "Why would I do that?"
"Forget it, then. I'll just suspend the mine's development. We'll pick it up next year."
