An hour later, Henry Fairchild's car pulled up to the gates of Skystone Manor.
Having received the word in advance, Arthur stood waiting at the entrance to escort him inside.
By the time Henry was led into the living room, Hudson Lancaster and Nora Reed were already seated on the sofa.
"Hudson! Evangeline!" Henry beamed the moment he walked in, his face crinkling with an overly enthusiastic smile. "Did I keep you waiting?"
Hudson's tone was ice-cold. "Not long."
Henry completely brushed off the frosty reception. He walked straight over, taking a seat on the opposite sofa, and cut right to the chase. "My men kept an eye on things for days, and we finally cornered that traitorous old bat. It's a shame she was so stubborn. The moment my guys pinned her down, she bit down on a cyanide capsule hidden in her teeth. By the time the paramedics got her to the hospital, she was already gone."
"Dead?" Hudson raised an eyebrow.
Henry sighed, looking exasperated. "I didn't expect it either. But luckily, she didn't have time to hand off the goods. We found The Ivory Pill on her."
Before he could finish, Hudson cut him off. "Where is it?"
Henry pressed his lips together, clearing his throat. "Now, Hudson, I did get the item back for you. But as Evangeline's father, there's a little business matter I'd like to discuss first."
Hudson slowly lifted his gaze. "What matter?"
Leaning back against the cushions, Henry casually crossed one leg over the other. "Look, Elias Winslow is in the hospital. Jude is definitely stepping up to take over the Winslow family, which means they won't have the bandwidth to manage the Aurora Gold Deposit in Australia."
"Evangeline is just one woman," Henry continued smoothly. "Running a gold mine is a massive, complicated operation. She'll be overwhelmed. As her father, I can't just sit back and watch my daughter exhaust herself, can I?"
He paused, closely watching Hudson's reaction. Seeing no objection, he pressed on. "The Fairchilds and the Lancasters are family now. Your Vanguard TBM tech is already rolling out, and my R&D team has officially entered the microchip race. That's going to cost billions in continuous funding, and honestly, the Fairchild family's capital is stretched a little thin."
