Chapter 91

Thirdperson POV

50 wa

Orion had been locked in his room the entire day, deciding very early that he was in far too bad a mood to deal with people. lectures, football practice, or honestly anything that required him pretending to be calm. The curtains in his room were still mostly closed even though it was already afternoon, leaving the space dim and quiet except for the occasional sound of cars outside and the faint noises coming from the rest of the house.

He had ignored every message sent to him, skipped practice completely, and spent most of the day either pacing around his room or lying on his bed staring blankly at the ceiling while his thoughts slowly drove him insane.

The anger in him simply refused to go away no matter how much time passed.

At one point, he had genuinely considered leaving the house entirely just so he would not have to remain in the same space is Jace any longer than necessary. The mere thought of seeing Jace’s face agaf was enough to make irritation rise sharply nside him all over again. Every single time he closed his eyes, he saw the same image from the night before. Luna lying naked in Jace’s arms while Jace’s scent covered her completely. The memory alone was enough to make his jaw tighten painfully.

Shadow was restless too.

His wolf had been in a terrible mood ever since the previous night, pacing endlessly inside his head with the same rustration and jealousy Orion himself was trying unsuccessfully to suppress. The bond they all shared with Luna had dready been difficult enough to handle before the marking, but now things somehow felt worse. Jace’s scent was permanently attached to her now, and every single one of them could smell it.

Orion hated it. He hated the fact that out of all of them, Jace had been the first, and maybe what frustrated him most was hat deep down, he was no longer sure he believed Jace’s excuses at all.

For years, Orion had always given Jace the benefit of the doubt. No matter what happened, he had always defended him. >elieving Jace genuinely meant well even when things somehow always ended up working in Jace’s favor. Jace had always been the responsible one, the dependable one, the one everybody trusted naturally. Orion himself had trusted him more imes than he could count, but after what happened with Luna, something in him had cracked badly.

Even if Jace kept pretending that what happened had not been intentional, Orion could not stop the suspicion growing nside him. All those lectures about staying away from Luna and not taking advantage of her suddenly felt fake now face had spent days warning all of them not to cross any lines with her, only for him to become the very first person to do exactly hat, and somehow Orion could not convince himself anymore that it had been an accident.

He sat up slowly on his bed and rubbed a hand over his face tivedly before letting out a bitter laugh under his breach Ot course he would be first,he muttered quietly to himself.

It had always been like that. Jace was always first. First in strength, first in leadership, first in control and now apparently irst with Luna too,

The thought made something ugly twist sharply in Orion’s chest again

He remembered all the times Jace had talked them out of doing reckless things while secretly wasting those same things himself. It would not have been the first time Jace manipulated situations to keep himself ahead white prescinding to be above it all Just because Jace usually acted cabin and rational did not mean he was the apable of deceit tranding that calmness only made him better at hiding it and Orion felt stupid for not seeing it sooner

He had trusted Jace for years without questioning hum properly, and now he felt like an idiot replaying every conversat in his head and wondering how many times fare had quietly put himself first while pretending otherwise

Shadow growled lowly inside him.

Exactly.Orion muttered bitterly

Just as he was sinking deeper into his thoughts, a knock suddenly sounded at the door.

Immediately, Orion froze slightly before sighing quietly because even without opening the door, he already knew exactly who it was. Knox’s scent was faint but recognizable enough now that identifying him was easy.

Come in,Orion called reluctantly.

The door opened slowly a second later, and Knox stepped inside calmly before closing it behind him. Unlike Orion, Knox looked perfectly composed as usual, and there was not a single sign that he had spent the last day involved in emotional

chaos

Orion sat up straighter against the headboard before adjusting his glasses slightly. If you’re here to talk to me about Jace,he said immediately before Knox could even speak, then honestly, you should leave because I really don’t want to talk about him right now.”

Knox let out a sigh before walking further into the room. Instead of responding immediately, he pulled one of the chairs closer and sat down calmly across from Orion.

How are you feeling?Knox asked instead.

The question alone made Orion scoff harshly. How do you think I’m feeling?he shot back bitterly. I feel like a complete diot.” His jaw tightened slightly before he continued more harshly, And honestly, the rest of you should probably feel the ame way after what Jace did.

Knox stayed quiet for a second before sighing again softly. I understand why you’re angry,he admitted calmly. Jace lefinitely went against what all of you agreed on, but at the end of the day, Luna herself said she was okay with what happened. None of us really have the right to condemn her choices if she’s fine with them.

Orion’s expression immediately hardened again. That’s not the point.

Then what is the point?Knox asked quietly while watching him carefully. Be honest with yourself for once. Orion Is your >roblem truly that Luna got marked without being fully conscious? Or is the real problem the fact that Jace was the one wh narked her?

Orion immediately looked up sharply at Knox with visible annoyance flashing across his face Can’t it be both he asked rritably.

Knox stayed silent.

Orion let out another frustrated breath before dragging both hands through his hair toughly Somcom newly c know that he doesn’t always have to be first,he uttered bitterly. And it that person has to be me thways in

before. If anything, seeing Jate refuse to fight back had only irritated Orion further because it made him feel like Jace accepted the blame completely without even trying to defend himself.

That somehow made things worse.

It wasn’t just about Luna.Orion admitted after a long silence, his voice lower now. I’m tired of always feeling like everything somehow revolves around him Everybody listens to him, everybody follows him, and every single time something important happens, somehow Jace still ends up at the center of it.
