Marked by the Alpha Team (Luna Merrick) novel Chapter 95

Luna’s POV

I had initially thought that I would be able to survive the ride with Theo by simply keeping quiet the entire time, staring out the window, and pretending he did not exist until we finally got to wherever he planned on taking me. Unfortunately for me, I quickly realized that Theo Vale did not believe in silence. In fact, I was starting to think silence physically offended him because barely two minutes after I entered his stupidly flashy red car and he started driving, he already began talking.

The car itself was already overstimulating enough without him adding unnecessary conversation on top of it. Everything about the vehicle screamed rich spoiled athlete with too much confidence and trot enough shame. The seats smelled expensive, the engine sounded way too loud, and even the inside somehow looked annoyingly luxurious.

I hated how comfortable the seats were, and I especially hated how good Theo looked driving the thing. It was deeply irritating.

The moment we pulled away from the café. Theo glanced toward me briefly before asking, So, do you have any expectations from me today?

I turned slowly to stare at him like he had completely lost his mind. Before I could even answer properly, he added, Or better yet, can you guess where I’m taking you?

continued staring at him in disbelief for another few seconds before finally speaking. Theo,I said flatly, we are not close nough for me to magically guess where you would take someone.”

He grinned slightly but stayed quiet, so I continued before he could say something even more ridiculous. And secondly,I added, don’t think I’m about to stress out my brain trying to play some weird guessing game with you.

Theo laughed immediately, an actual amused laugh like I had just entertained him. I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back toward the window, silently hoping that now that he got whatever that was out of his system, he would finally keep quiet and focus on driving.

Unfortunately, that hope died very quickly. As the car moved through the streets, I found myself staring outside while trying not to think too hard about the fact that I was currently on a date. Even thinking the word datefelt strange in my head. My ife had become so absurd over the past few weeks that sometimes I genuinely felt like I was living inside somebody else’s badly written drama.

A few weeks ago, my biggest concern had been training hard enough to stay on scholarship and help my mother financially. Now I was sitting inside a ridiculously expensive sports car beside one of my five supernatural mates while wearing a dress.

Life was actually insane.

In all honesty, I expected Theo to take me somewhere like a fancy restaurant where rich people probably ate microscopic food portions while pretending they were worth hundreds of dollars. Theo seemett exactly like the type of person who enjoyed showing off how wealthy he was, even if he pretended otherwise.

I could already imagine him casually ordering expensive food while I sat there trying not to embarrass myself with the wrong fork. The thought alone stressed me out, and the annoying thing was that I did not actually dislike Theo

That would have made things easier.

Theo was attractive. Extremely attractive, unfortunately. Any sane person with functioning eyes could acknowledge that immediately. Between his stupidly perfect face, his confidence, and that irritating smirk he wore half the time, it was easy to understand why girls practically threw themselves at him constantly, and because he was my mate, there was naturally a pull there whether I liked it or not.

a unlike face, tyder or even Orion, there was something about Theo that kept me from fully relaxing around him. With the cakers, even when being around them made me slightly uncomfortable, I could still sense some level of sincerity from them. When they spoke, it usually felt genuine.

Theo, on the other hand, always felt like he was performing, like there was some visible mask sitting perfectly on his face at all times. He smiled too easily, flirted too naturally, and spoke too smoothly.

It made me suspicious.

I could not explain it properly even to myself, but every instinct inside me kept telling me that there was more to Theo than whatever image he showed everybody else. Until that mask slipped off completely, I could not imagine myself ever fully trusting him.

Apparently, Moon disagreed completely. You overthink too much, she complained lazily inside my head.

I resisted the urge to groan out loud. No, I argued internally. I just know how to recognize when somebody is suspicious.

Mate is not suspicious.

He literally blackmailed us into going on a date:

Moon ignored that entirely. Mate smells nice.

I almost rolled my eyes into another dimension. You are genuinely useless sometimes.’

She laughed inside my head, clearly unbothered by my criticism. Unfortunately, while I was busy mentally arguing with my horndog wolf, Theo interrupted my thoughts again.

I know you found my invitation unexpected,” he suddenly said.

I blinked and looked toward him. One hand rested casually on the steering wheel while the other tapped lightly against his thigh as he drove. For once, his voice sounded slightly calmer/than usual, which caught me a little off guard.

But I really do want to get to know you,he continued. So you don’t have to look this uncomfortable around me.”

I stared at him for a moment before letting out a quiet scoff. You haven’t exactly done anything to make me comfortable.I pointed out honestly. And let’s not forget the fact that you only managed to get me to agree to this date by holding a favor over my head.”

Theo chuckled softly at that, completely shameless. I only did that because I knew you would never say yes otherwise.he admitted easily.

Well, at least you’re selfaware.”

He grinned slightly before continuing, And like i told you before, I have no intention of slowing down when it comes to winning your heart.

The words should have sounded romantic. Instead, they only made me suspicious again. I turned toward him fully with narrowed eyes. You say things like that way too easily.

Theo glanced at me briefly. Is that a bad thing?

Yes,I answered immediately. It sounds rehearsed.

He actually looked amused by that. Rehearsed?

You talk like somebody inside your head is feeding you lines from a romance movie.
