Chapter 117 Let’s Pretend It Never Happened
Jake’s POV:
I stared at Peggie without blinking, trying to judge whether she was telling the truth.
In my last clear memory, the woman I held was Deanna.
The woman I kissed was Deanna.
How did I wake up with Peggie instead?
Peggie kept her head down, twisting the blanket in her hands. Her face showed nothing.
A few seconds later, I looked away and forced myself to calm down.
“Get dressed first. We’ll talk after,” I said.
I left the bedroom and sat in the suite’s living room.
My chest felt tight. I felt like vines were squeezing my throat, and I couldn’t breathe.
I fumbled for a cigarette, bit it between my teeth, lit it, and took two hard drags before letting the smoke out.
The room blurred in the haze.
The bedroom door opened. Peggie walked out in a blue dress, slow and obedient. She looked soft and careful
I looked at the dress and scowled.
It was the same style Deanna wore–almost the same color.
Had I really mistaken Peggie for Deanna?
A sudden pain stabbed my head and stomach. Everything inside me felt raw, like someone had stabbed me in many places.
Still, I forced myself to sit upright and met her eyes.
“Peggie,” I said, “let’s just pretend this never happened.”
Peggie’s POV:
His words hit me like a blow. My eyes flew wide, and tears filled up before I could stop them.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
I thought last night would change everything.
But he wanted nothing to do with me.
This wasn’t my first time, but I was still the heiress of the Iceclaw Pack. How could he treat me like this?
“Jake, what did you say? D–did I hear you wrong?” I asked, desperate.

He rested his elbows on his knees and buried his forehead in his hands. “I’m sorry,” he said, eyes down.
I shook my head so hard my voice broke.
“I don’t want sorry. I want you! Jake, I love you. I’ve always loved you. I never stopped. Didn’t you ever love me?”
He didn’t answer. The cigarette in his hand glowed red. Ash fell to the floor.
His indifference was deeper than anything else. I cried out, “Then why were you so good to me?”
Jake stood up. “I’ll make it up to you. But you can’t tell anyone about this.”
He didn’t look back. He opened the door and left.
When the door closed, it felt like my heart had been torn apart.
Couldn’t tell anyone? He’d make it up to me?
The only thing I ever wanted was him.
Was he deeply in love with Deanna?
I wiped my tears hard, picked up the phone, and dialed.
My voice was cold when I spoke. “Carry out the plan. Deanna needs to be gone for me to have Jake’s heart.”

I had stayed home for a while, giving myself time to calm down. Once I felt steady enough, I decided it was time to go back to work.
Before leaving, I passed the desk in the living room.
From the drawer, I pulled out the document Ruth had given me, the one for 30% of the shares, and shoved it straight into my bag.
The moment ! opened the door, I found Stacey standing there, with an insulated bag in her hands.
“Ms. Deanna, this is your breakfast. Luna asked me to bring it to you.”
“I don’t need it.”
“Luna made it herself. You know she never cooks, but she’s been learning to cook for you. Her fingers are even cut from trying.”
I said nothing, just looked at her quietly.
Stacey hurried on, “Ms. Jillian has moved out of the mansion. Luna cleaned and prepared your room just for you. She truly regrets everything.”
“Is that so?”
I reached out and took the bag. Stacey’s face lit up with relief.
The very next second, I tossed the bag straight into the trash can beside me.
“Tell her not to send anything again.”
