**The Heart I Buried for You by Serene Lockwood**
Luis’s POV:
The lingering warmth of Deanna’s kiss still danced on my lips as I gazed down at her, a playful smirk curling at the corners of my mouth.
Ah, look at her, getting bold enough to flirt with me now.
With a swift motion, I rolled her over, pinning her beneath me on the soft sofa. The fabric cradled her as her silky hair spilled around her like a dark halo. Her cheeks, usually so pale, were now flushed with a delightful pink, and her bright eyes sparkled up at me with a mix of mischief and surprise.
“You can bite me any way you like tonight,” I murmured, my voice low and teasing, as my fingers deftly began to work at the buttons of her shirt, one by one.
I could feel the rapid thumping of her heartbeat, a rhythm so loud that even my wolf, always attuned to her, noticed the change.
But just as the moment began to heat up, the shrill sound of the doorbell shattered the intimacy between us.
Deanna jolted back to reality, her eyes wide. She pushed against my chest with urgency, trying to sit up as she fumbled with her shirt buttons. “Who is it?”
She shoved me aside with a look that was both sharp and commanding, her bare foot nudging my shin as if to hurry me along.
“Go answer the door,” she insisted, her voice firm, leaving my desire hanging in the air, unresolved.
With a reluctant shrug, I got to my feet, my mood souring as I made my way to the door.
Standing there was a werewolf guard, cradling a small bundle in his arms.
“Alpha, I brought Puddy,” he announced, the dog squirming in his grasp.
Deanna’s voice chimed with excitement from behind me. “Puddy?”
A wave of realization washed over me. I had arranged for that ridiculous dog to be sent over just a couple of days ago, and now it seemed I had unwittingly sabotaged my own evening.
I crouched down, ruffling Puddy’s chin affectionately. “You little troublemaker, you better keep yourself entertained tonight, got it?”
But Puddy wriggled free, barking happily as he dashed straight into Deanna’s outstretched arms.
Her entire face lit up with joy as she enveloped the dog in a tight embrace, her laughter ringing through the room like music.
I shut the door with a resigned sigh and crossed my arms, watching the two of them play on the couch where just moments ago we had been on the brink of something more.
Fantastic. Just what I needed—a silly dog to ruin my night.
I slouched back onto the sofa, sprawling my legs out as I kept my gaze fixed on Deanna and Puddy.
“Am I invisible now that the dog’s here?” I called out, feigning annoyance.
Deanna glanced up at me, exasperation etched on her features. “Go play by yourself for a while.”
So, I picked up the remote, flicking through the channels aimlessly, stealing glances at her and Puddy every now and then.
This is ridiculous.
Deanna’s POV:
His words made my heart race, and my lashes fluttered in surprise. Heat crept up my cheeks, embarrassment washing over me at being caught off guard.
But I quickly lifted my chin, forcing confidence into my voice. “Why would I be jealous? I’m just curious. Puddy’s adorable, that’s all.”
Luis studied me for a moment, then leaned in and gently pinched my earlobe.
The cold touch sent a jolt through me, and I felt my ears turn crimson as my breath caught in my throat.
“Why are you blushing?” he chuckled, a teasing glint in his eyes.
“Well, you startled me!” I protested, trying to regain my composure.
Suddenly, his expression softened, and he leaned closer. “Close your eyes.”
“Why?” I blinked, confusion swirling in my mind.
“Because I want to kiss you.”
Before I could respond, his lips pressed against my forehead, a sweet, tender gesture that sent a rush of warmth through me.
In that moment, I heard him whisper softly in my ear, “Next time you come to my office, I’ll tell you who my first love was.”
