Marked By the Pureblood Alpha (Deanna and Luis) novel Chapter 244

**Chapter 244 What the Heart Denies**

**Luis’s POV:**

I squinted, the weight of uncertainty pressing heavily on my chest.

Deanna had posed the very same question earlier, her voice laced with hope and curiosity.

It wasn’t that I was unwilling; rather, a deep-seated fear gnawed at me. I dreaded the thought of her getting hurt.

Being a pureblood noble of the Mooncrown Pack was a double-edged sword—an esteemed title that felt more like a gilded cage.

If she were to become my Luna, she would be subjected to relentless scrutiny, especially from Ruth, whose judgment could pierce through the strongest of facades.

And then there was that accursed prophecy looming over my head like a dark cloud.

In less than six months, I would reach the threshold of twenty-five, a milestone that carried with it the ominous promise of transformation.

The last thing I wanted was for her to witness my descent into chaos, to see the bloodlust consume me in a way that I could barely control.

Yet, I couldn’t bear the thought of my bloodline fading away, becoming nothing more than a whisper in the wind.

Turning to Erik, I asked, “If you were in my shoes, what course of action would you take?”

Erik reclined casually on the couch, a lazy grin spreading across his face. “Me?”

He chuckled, the sound rich with carefree mischief. “Simple. My motto is to live life unchained. A mate or a pup? That would only weigh me down. If a woman ever found herself pregnant with my child, I’d just pay her off to end it.”

A cold laugh escaped my lips, mingling with a sense of revulsion as I stared at him.

“I must be losing my grip on sanity for even considering your perspective.”

**Deanna’s POV:**

The doorbell rang incessantly, each chime echoing my rising irritation.

Assuming it was Luis still lingering outside, I stormed over and flung the door open with a mix of frustration and determination.

I barely cracked it before snapping, “Why are you still here?”

To my surprise, Violet stood there, a thermos bag clutched in her hand, her expression one of startled confusion. “Who’s still here?”

Realizing my blunder, I let out a long breath. “No one. I thought it was someone else.”

After a moment of contemplation, she added, “But Mr. Eaton won’t just walk away. We’re talking about the Mooncrown bloodline here.”

Her words struck straight at the core of the anxiety I had been trying desperately to suppress.

Luis’s unexpected appearance at the hospital had completely derailed my carefully laid plans.

I sank deeper into the couch, one hand resting gently on my still-flat belly, feeling an inexplicable connection that was already forming. It was faint yet undeniable, a bond that fortified my resolve.

“No matter what he does, I won’t let anyone take my baby away from me.”

Violet patted my shoulder reassuringly. “Then stop overthinking it. You’ve made your choice, so stick to it. I’ll be the baby’s godmother. Even without a father, that child will be showered with more love than most.”

Her words enveloped me in warmth, igniting a flicker of hope within.

I leaned my head against her shoulder, feeling a sense of comfort wash over me. “Violet, if you were a man, I’d marry you in a heartbeat. Then this baby would be ours, and no one could ever take it away.”

I paused, a serious thought crossing my mind. “Actually, maybe you could just get gender reassignment surgery.”

Violet stared at me, her expression a mix of disbelief and amusement, before rolling her eyes dramatically.

“You’ve completely lost it, mama bear. I haven’t even begun to enjoy my time with men yet. Why on earth would I want to give that up?”
