**Chapter 271: The Curse He’s Hiding**
**Erik’s POV:**
Luis leaned back in his chair, the weight of his thoughts casting a shadow over his usually bright demeanor. “If you pursue her and then dump her, I won’t know how to explain things to Deanna when the time comes,” he said, his voice laced with concern.
The words hung in the air, and I found myself at a loss for a response.
This guy was ridiculously one-sided in his views.
“Can’t I be sincere?” I finally managed to ask, my tone a mix of frustration and disbelief.
Luis shot me a skeptical glance, his eyebrows arching in disbelief. “Sincerity? You actually have that?”
I couldn’t deny my history of dating a few girls, but each relationship had been genuine, filled with earnest intentions.
Who decided that sincerity was a privilege reserved for those who committed to a single partner for life?
I knew better than to expect Luis to grasp that concept, so I swiftly redirected the conversation. “So, what was it that you wanted to discuss? Please don’t tell me you dragged me out just to drown your sorrows in alcohol.”
Luis swirled the amber liquid in his glass, his gaze distant as he spoke. “I confessed to Deanna and told her I want to marry her. Why won’t she agree?”
Suppressing a chuckle, I raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you two already break up?”
Luis hummed softly, a hint of frustration etched on his face, as if he couldn’t fathom why this was even a concern.
I sighed, shaking my head slightly. “You’re jumping straight to marriage without even trying to rekindle your relationship first? Most women wouldn’t be on board with that kind of leap.”
Curiosity piqued, I continued, “By the way, how did you and Deanna even start dating in the first place?”
I leaned back in my chair, creating a bit of distance from his intense Alpha aura. “Right now, you’re only focused on how she doesn’t trust you. But what about you? Are you willing to trust her?”
His silence was deafening, yet I could see the chill in his eyes deepen.
“Your biggest secret—your damned curse—have you even told her about it?”
His grip on the glass tightened, knuckles whitening as he processed my words.
“See, you haven’t,” I said, spreading my hands in a gesture of exasperation. “You could turn into a monster at any moment, yet you want her to marry you and have your children. Do you really think she would feel touched knowing you kept such a monumental truth from her, or would she see you as a complete fraud?”
I locked eyes with him, the weight of the conversation heavy between us. “Let me ask you something crucial. What if—just what if—that Healer you’re hoping for can’t be found at all? What’s your plan then?”
The intensity of my gaze didn’t waver. “If she truly marries you and that curse takes hold, you could transform into a bloodthirsty black wolf just like your father and grandfather. You’d lose all control. What do you think Deanna would do then? And what about your child?”
