Third-person POV:
As soon as Erik heard Deanna was in labor, he rushed to the hospital.
Violet saw him and didn't hesitate. All the anger she'd been holding back toward Luis came out at him. "Deanna's literally about to give birth, and Luis has vanished! You men are all the same. Completely useless!"
"Okay, okay! Relax! I'll get him on the phone right now!"
Erik yanked out his phone and called Luis.
The phone kept ringing.
Violet's face twisted as she struggled to breathe. She looked like she might pass out from rage.
"If something happens to Deanna or the pup, Luis better live with that for the rest of his life!"
Inside the casino suite...
Grant sat at the table, looking perfectly at ease. He twirled the crystal glass between his fingers, swirling the amber liquor slowly. His eyes drifted lazily toward the window.
The clouds overhead finally began to pull apart, revealing a golden, glowing full moon.
His eyes lit up with excitement.
It was finally time.
Most people had no idea, but he knew the Mooncrown Pack's biggest secret.
Every Alpha born into that bloodline carried a Blood Moon Curse. In the early years, it would trigger mild loss of control. But the older they got, the worse it became.
And if they failed to locate a healer, the curse would explode when they turned 25. On the full moon, they would lose control and turn into a dark wolf.
Luis had already turned 25. The healer had not shown up.
So tonight would be the end.
Grant's hand clenched around his glass. The stem creaked from the pressure. Impossible.
Luis's father and grandfather both died from the curse. There was no way this was wrong.
Unless... A horrifying thought hit him.
"You found the healer?" Grant's voice shot up without warning. His throat went tight.
Luis smiled even wider. The corners of his eyes curved. "Sure did. So your little show's over."
Grant's face darkened until it was nearly purple.
His phone buzzed. He pulled it out, glanced at the screen, and answered with a snap. The voice on the other end shattered the last piece of hope he was clinging to.
A loud crack followed as he turned and kicked the edge of the table. His whole face twisted.
