Mated To The Alpha King (Raven and Ethan) novel Chapter 291

**No More 291**

**Chapter 291**

**Alpha Ethan’s POV**

I felt an overwhelming urge to chase after her, to call out her name, to make things right. I truly did.

But the reality of my situation anchored me to the bed, a weight I couldn’t shake off. Each attempt to sit up sent a jolt of pain slicing through my abdomen, as if my insides were being torn apart once more.

My legs felt like they were made of jelly, weak and unsteady beneath me.

And with every breath I took, I was reminded of the reckless act I had attempted, the foolishness that had brought me to this point.

Perhaps Raven was onto something.

Maybe I was indeed selfish.

Maybe, deep down, I didn’t care enough about my children.

What would have become of them if I had succeeded in my desperate attempt?

Three innocent lives, three little beings who had no say in being thrust into my tumultuous and painful existence.

They relied on me, trusted me, and needed me to guide them through life.

How would they have coped without their father?

The mere thought of their faces filled with confusion and sorrow if I had been gone gripped my chest with a fierce, painful squeeze.

Yet, as I sat there, attempting to breathe steadily and stave off the tears threatening to spill, my mind couldn’t escape the looming shadow of the very real problem ahead of me.

The full moon.

The ominous warning from the seer.

The terrifying prospect of my wolf fading away forever.

The very essence of my identity as an Alpha being stripped from me.

Just two months remained.

Only two months to find my second chance mate before everything I knew was taken from me.

How was I supposed to locate her in such a short span?

How could I mark her, claim her as mine?

How could I persuade her to accept me, to embrace the bond we were destined to share?

Especially when I didn’t even know who she was.

The seer had uttered something cryptic before departing, words that had initially eluded my comprehension.

“She is close to you, closer than you think. She is within your pack, watching. But she stays quiet, waiting. She will not come to you unless fate pushes her.”

Those words echoed in my mind, a riddle I was desperate to solve.

If my mate truly resided within my pack, if she had been here all along, then why hadn’t she stepped forward?

Why the silence?

Why was she hiding from me?

Was fear holding her back?

Did she harbor feelings of resentment towards me?

Did she even know I was meant for her?

And the haunting question that gnawed at my heart:

Was she on the verge of giving up on us?

I slowly shut my eyes, leaning back against the pillows, the weight of everything pressing down on me.

Just then, a soft knock broke through the silence, gentle at first, then more insistent.

I let out a weary sigh. “Come in.”

The door creaked open, revealing the healer, her presence a small comfort amidst the turmoil.

Following her was Beta Matthew, arms crossed tightly over his chest, his expression a mix of concern and seriousness.

They both regarded me with pity, and I loathed that look.

“Good day, Alpha,” the healer spoke softly, her voice soothing as she approached my bedside.

Matthew remained silent, settling into the chair at the foot of my bed, his gaze fixed on me, unyielding.

The healer busied herself with checking the items on the table, her movements methodical before she turned her attention back to me.

“How are you feeling, Alpha?” she inquired gently.

“I’m fine,” I muttered, my tone clipped. “You can go. I don’t need anyone right now. Just leave me alone.”

“No!” he interrupted, his voice rising slightly. “Don’t ‘Matthew’ me. You need to think, Ethan. Think before you do something reckless again.”

My jaw clenched, a wave of frustration washing over me.

“I know I messed up,” I admitted quietly, my voice barely a whisper. “I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. Everything felt overwhelming. I just wanted it all to stop. I wanted the pain to end.”

My voice cracked under the weight of my emotions.

Matthew’s expression softened slightly, though the anger still lingered in his eyes.

“And now?” he asked, his tone gentler.

“I just…” My voice faltered, dropping to a whisper I couldn’t control. “I just want to find her.”

“Who?” Matthew asked, his brow furrowing in confusion.

“My second chance mate,” I clarified, desperation threading through my words. “She’s the only one who can pull me out of this nightmare.”

I ran a hand through my hair, the gesture a futile attempt to clear my mind.

“If I hadn’t made the mistakes I did in the past, none of this would have happened. I would be living a peaceful, happy life with Reven and the kids.”

Matthew sighed deeply, shaking his head.

“Stop dwelling on the past,” he urged firmly. “The past is behind you. You can’t change it.

Right now, you need to focus on the present and the future. You need to focus on healing and finding your mate.”

He paused, locking eyes with me.

“You still have a chance, Ethan. You still have time.”

Before I could respond, another knock echoed through the room.

I frowned, irritation bubbling within me.

“Come in,” I called out, my voice strained.

The door opened, and one of the pack guards stepped inside, bowing respectfully.

“Alpha,” he said, his tone formal. “We found a woman at the border.”

Matthew and I exchanged a sharp glance, curiosity piquing our interest.

The guard continued, “She claims to have a message for you.”
