Reven’s POV

I woke up with a pounding headache, so sharp it felt like my skull would split open at any moment. A weak groan slipped past my lips as I lifted my hand to my head, my fingers trembling.

My body felt heavy and wrong. Every muscle ached, stiff and sore, and my limbs refused to respond the way they should.

Slowly, painfully, I forced my eyes open.

Darkness greeted me.

The place I was in was unfamiliar, cold stone beneath me, damp air clinging to my skin, seeping into my bones. The only source of light was a thin ray slipping through a narrow opening beneath a metal door across the room.

It wasn’t enough to reveal much, only long shadows stretching along the walls like silent watchers.

Where… where am I?

Fear curled tightly in my chest as I tried to sit up. The moment I moved, dizziness crashed over me like a violent wave. My vision blurred, my stomach twisted, and before I could steady myself, my legs gave out.

I fell hard.

My body hit the cold floor with a painful thud, the breath rushing out of my lungs in a loud gasp. Pain exploded through my side, sharp and blinding, and I cried out, clutching my stomach as tears instantly burned my eyes.

“Ahh…” I whimpered, curling into myself.

That was when memories began to flood back.

The argument.

Alpha Ethan.

His voice was cold, sharp, filled with authority and frustration. My own words angry, reckless, and spoken without thinking. I remembered storming out of the pack house, my heart pounding wildly, my wolf restless and upset.

I should never have left.

The memory shifted.

The forest path… the crunch of leaves beneath my feet… the sudden movement behind me.

What’s happening? I asked her desperately.

Her response came weak… strained, as if she were fighting through something heavy.

They did something to us, she said faintly. A spell. I can feel it. They sealed the bond.

My heart shattered.

A spell? I repeated in disbelief.

Yes, she confirmed. We can’t mind–link him… and he can’t reach us either.

A small, broken sob escaped my lips.

“No…” I whispered, shaking my head helplessly. “No, no, no…”

Alpha Ethan would be looking for me. I knew it with every part of my soul. He would be tearing the pack apart, blaming himself, and losing his mind.

Tears streamed freely down my face as their images flashed in my mind: their laughter, their warmth, their innocent smiles when they ran into my arms.

The sound of footsteps woke me.

My eyes flew open instantly, fear surging through me. I scrambled backward until my back hit the cold wall, my arms wrapping tightly around myself as if I could protect what little strength I had left.

The footsteps grew louder.

My heart pounded so hard I was sure whoever was coming could hear it.

The door creaked open.

Blinding light flooded the room, stabbing into my eyes. I cried out softly, raising my hands to shield my face as pain flared behind my eyes.

“Please…” I whispered weakly.

Slowly, my vision adjusted.

And then I froze.

Standing in the doorway was someone I never expected to see.

“V–Vera?” I gasped.

Shock rooted me to the spot as she let out a low, amused laugh. She stepped inside, and the door slammed shut behind her, plunging the room back into dimness.

She walked toward me slowly, deliberately, like a predator enjoying the fear in its prey.

Then she crouched in front of me, bringing herself to my level, her eyes glowing with cruel satisfaction.

“Well,” she said sweetly, “look at you.”

My heart raced painfully.

“What are you doing here?” I demanded weakly. “Did you–did you have something to do with this?”

She tilted her head, pretending to think for a moment.

Then she smiled.

“Yes.”

The single word crushed me.

“I’m the one who kidnapped you,” she said calmly. “And you’re far from Alpha Ethan’s reach. Far from his protection.”

Tears poured down my face.

“What did you do to me?” I cried. “Why can’t I feel him?”

Her smile vanished.

Before I could react, her hand swung.

Smack.

Pain exploded across my face as her palm connected with my cheek. My head snapped to the side, a sharp cry tearing from my throat as I collapsed against the wall.

“Ahh-!”

My cheek burned, my ears ringing.

Vera stood up, towering over me, her eyes cold and merciless.

“That,” she said sharply, “is the beginning of your punishment.”

I stared at her in shock, my face throbbing.

“That’s a nice question you asked earlier,” she continued mockingly. “I did nothing wrong. I only stopped you from completing the mission you were sent on.”

I blinked through tears, confused.

“Mission?” I whispered.

She turned toward the men standing behind her.

“Take her,” she ordered. “The Rogue King will decide what to do with her.”

Panic consumed me.

“No!” I screamed. “Vera, please! Don’t do this to me!”

But my pleas fell on deaf ears.

Strong hands grabbed me, dragging me across the cold floor as I screamed and struggled, my strength no match for theirs.

The last thing I heard was Vera’s laughter echoing behind me.

And somewhere far away, beyond spells, darkness, and pain, I prayed Alpha Ethan could still feel me.
