Chapter 397
Alpha Ethan’s POV
I walked into the club and saw Reven immediately.
She was sitting at a small corner table, laughing
Laughing
As if nothing had happened. As if she hadn’t run out of my house that morning like I was something to be feared… or avoided. As if she hadn’t ignored every single call I had made to her since sunrise.
And across from her sat a man.
Too dose.
Too comfortable.
Too familiar.
Something dark and ugly twisted in my chest.
The lights pulsed across her face violet, gold, crimson catching on the bare skin of her shoulders, her throat, the smooth length of her legs exposed by a dress that was far too short for my liking.
My jaw tightened.
Mine.
The word came unbidden, primal, absolute.
She threw her head back at something he said, smiling wide, relaxed in a a way I hadn’t seen since before the ball. That strike should have been relief to see.
Instead, it felt like a blade sliding slowly between my ribs.
I started walking.
People moved out of my way instinctively, conversations dying mid–sentence as the tension around me spread like smoke.
The man saw me first.
His smile faltered.
Reven followed his gaze and froze.
Her expression shifted from surprise… to dread.
Good
I stopped beside the table.
Neither of them spoke.

The man half–rose from his chair, clearly unsure whether to stay seated or stand fully.
“Is there a problem?” he asked cautiously.
I didn’t answer.
My fist connected with his face before he even finished the sentence.
The crack echoed over the music.

Gasps rippled through the surrounding tables as his chair tipped backward and he crashed to the floor, clutching his jaw in shock.
“Stay away from her,” I said coldly. “She’s mine.”
The words came out low, deadly, final.
Reven shot to her feet, eyes blazing.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!” she snapped.
I barely glanced at the man being helped up by security.
He wasn’t the problem.
She was.
“So this is why you’ve been ignoring my calls?” I asked, my voice dangerously quiet.
Her hands clenched at her sides. “He is NOT the reason I didn’t answer you.”
“Then what is?”
“Because I didn’t want to,” she shot back. “I don’t owe you an explanation for everything I do!”
Murmurs spread around us, but no one dared interrupt.
My temper flared.
“You’re becoming very stubborn.”
Her chin lifted defiantly. “I’m stubborn with people who try to control my life.”
The words landed like a challenge.
My gaze dropped unintentionally to her dress.
Too short.
Too revealing.
Too many eyes on her.
Every man in this place had been looking at her legs, her body, imagining things they had no right to imagine.
Something possessive, ugly, and furious surged through me.

“Why are you wearing something like that?” I demanded.
She blinked, caught off guard. “What?”
“That dress.”
Her eyes hardened. “It’s my body. I can wear whatever I want.”
“Not when you’re my wife.”
Silence fell.
Shock flashed across her face then anger, sharp and blazing.
“I only agreed to that for the kids,” she said through gritted teeth. “Not for you.”
I didn’t respond.
Instead, I bent down, slid an arm behind her knees, another around her back, and lifted her effortlessly into my arms.
The entire club gasped.
She shrieked, struggling instantly. “Put me down! Ethan, put me down!”
I ignored her, turning toward the exit.
Her fists pounded against my chest. “Are you insane?!”
No.
Just done being patient.
Cold night air hit us the moment we stepped outside.
I carried her straight to the car and set her inside only to lean in after her, bracing one hand on either side of the seat, caging her in with my body.
My shadow swallowed her.
Her breath hitched, her eyes wide.
“Let me go!” she snapped, pushing at my chest.
I didn’t move.
“I only agreed to be your wife for the kids,” she continued, her voice shaking with anger. “Not because of you. I don’t even like you. I hate you.”
The words should have hurt.
Instead, they ignited something darker.
“I’m not attractive, right?” I said quietly.
She faltered for a split second.

“And that guy inside is?” I pressed.
Her lips parted.
“Yes-”
She never finished.
I caught her face in my hand and kissed her.
Hard.
Not gentle. Not tentative.
Possessive. Furious. Consuming.
Her body went rigid in shock then melted against me with a soft, involuntary sound that vibrated straight through my chest.
Her hands gripped my shirt.
A small moan slipped from her lips before she could stop it.
I pulled back abruptly, breaking the kiss, leaving her gasping, stunned, flushed.
Her eyes were dazed, her pupils blown wide.
“Don’t lie to yourself,” I said roughly.
She didn’t answer.
Couldn’t.
“You’re not going back to your friend’s apartment,” I continued, my voice cold again. “You’re coming with me.”
Her focus snapped back. “What?”
“You’ll stay at the pack house from now on.”
“No, I won’t.”
“Yes, you will.”
“I am NOT moving in with you!”
“You don’t get a choice.”
Her anger reignited instantly. “You can’t just decide things for
Her anger reignited instantly. “You can’t just decide things for me!”
“I can when your safety is involved,” I said, my voice dropping into that quiet, dangerous register that usually made grown men step back.
She didn’t step back.
If anything, she leaned forward, fury blazing in her eyes.

“I don’t need your protection,” she shot back. “I didn’t ask for it, and I don’t want it.”
The driver shifted uncomfortably in the front seat, pretending very hard not to hear us.
“You were drugged last night.” I said, forcing the words through clenched teeth. “Someone targeted you at a secured Alpha gathering That is not a coincidence”
Her expression flickered just for a second uncertainty breaking through the rage.
Then she hardened again.
“That will doesn’t give you the right to kidnap me.”
“This is not kidnapping”
“You dragged me out of a club in front of hundreds of people!”
“Because you were sitting alone with a stranger after ignoring every call I made.”
“I wasn’t alone,” she snapped. “And I wasn’t doing anything wrong!”
My hands curled into fists at my sides.
“You don’t even know who he was”
“He was being kind,” she said sharply. “Something you seem incapable of.”
The words landed harder than any physical blow.
For a moment, I just stared at her.
Then I leaned closer, lowering my voice so only she could hear.
“Kind men don’t circle vulnerable women in crowded clubs.”
Her breath hitched, but she didn’t look away.
“I wasn’t vulnerable”
“You were drinking, Alone. After being drugged the night before.”
Her jaw tightened, but she had no immediate comeback.
Good.
The car slowed as we approached the estate gates. Massive iron bars loomed ahead, guards already moving into position.
Her eyes widened as she recognized where we were.
“No” she said immediately. “Turn around.”
The driver hesitated.
“Do not turn around,” I said calmly.
The gates began to open.

The car rolled forward
Panic replaced anger on her face.
“I want to go home”
“No, it n’t” she cried. “My home is with Edna. I don’t want to stay here, I don’t want to marry you anymore!”
The words hit like ice water
I turned slowly to face her fully.
“So you want to leave the kids again?”
Her eyes flashed with hurt. “I am not leaving them”
“You walked away once already”
“I told you, I don’t remember them!” she said, her voice cracking, “I don’t know them, Ethan. How many times do I have to say in”
The car stopped in front of the main entrance.
Silence fell, thick and suffocating.
I opened the door and stepped out.
She didn’t move.
“Come inside,” I said.
“No”
“Reven”
“I said no,” she whispered, clutching the seat as if it were the only thing keeping her grounded.
I leaned down, my voice dropping to something softer, more dangerous.
“You can walk in on your own, or I can carry you again.”
Her glare could have burned through steel.
“Fine,” she snapped, pushing past me.
The moment she stepped inside, she stopped.
The pack house was quiet at this hour grand hallways lit by soft golden chandeliers, polished marble floors reflecting every movement, high ceilings that made the space feel almost cathedral–like.
Servants paused mid–task, startled by the tension radiating from us.

The maid bowed immediately, “Yes, Alpha.”
Reven stared at me like I’d just sentenced her to prison.
“I am not staying in your room, she said flatly.
“You’re not, I replied. “It’s yours”
I don’t want it?
