Most females living in the Wasteland City were reserved and gentle with tough, resilient looks in their

eyes.

A few others carried an aloof, detached aura much like Elara. None of them fixated on food openly. In the Wasteland City, one’s access to food directly reflected one’s financial standing, so everyone kept such needs private.

Few possessed such vivid, unreserved personalities as Gillian.

“Life only lasts thirty thousand days. There is no need to bind yourself with endless shackles.”

In her previous life, Gillian had never allowed herself a single moment of relaxation. Every day was filled with endless pressure and helpless compromise.

Now everything had changed. The Grayson family was gone. She had accumulated an abundant wealth of

her own.

If she advanced to level 9 safely, gave birth to her two children, raised them well, and moved with her family and grandmother to Capital Planet, she would have a peaceful, fulfilling future ahead.

The carriage fell into quiet stillness.

Gillian gazed calmly at the scenery passing outside the window, relaxed and unhurried.

Tristan watched her quietly. Confusion flickered across his clear fox eyes.

He could not believe this usually sharp female could be so free-spirited. It had to be an act. If Gillian were truly so indifferent and untroubled, she would not cling so tightly to Merrick.

Tristan’s eyes darted between Sylas and Gillian. A crafty plan suddenly formed in his mind.

“Mrs. Cole, can Sylas come eat dinner with us?”

The fluffy fox lifted his head and looked at Gillian with an innocent, apologetic gaze.

“Sylas took me for lunch today. The food was not enough, and I ended up eating all his dinner portion. He has nothing left to eat tonight.”

Us?

Gillian was utterly confused.

Yesterday, the two of them had been hostile enough to attack each other on sight.

Gillian stared at the fox’s head speechlessly. This little creature was truly shameless, spouting such absurd. intimate lines.

“Tris!”

Sylas froze completely. His ears flushed red instantly. He rushed to explain in flustered panic. “Mrs. Cole. he is joking. I have my own food arranged.”

Shyness and embarrassment washed over him. His voice stumbled, and fair skin bloomed with a faint crimson blush.

Gillian was stunned. She had never seen a male flush so easily and vividly.

Tristan panicked internally.

The serpent bloodline rarely showed such emotional vulnerability. It only happened when a male truly recognized someone as a friend and let their guard down. He fell for others far too easily.

Tristan’s entire scheme to use Sylas’s striking charm to distract Gillian collapsed on the spot.

He was terrified of getting his best friend tangled up in trouble.

“Are you a bottomless pit? How did you eat Captain Moore’s entire dinner ration?”

Gillian had left Tristan to fend for himself during lunch. She had not expected the gluttonous fox to clean up Sylas’s evening meal entirely.

This fox sure had a huge appetite. Tristan was only nineteen after all, an age when one naturally had a big appetite.

Tristan was stunned by the insult. No one had ever dared call him a glutton in his life.

Beneath his messy fur, his face burned bright red. He itched to bite Gillian in retaliation.

Yet he held back for the sake of his plan. He slumped his head into his arms and mumbled dejectedly.

“Mrs. Cole, Lucian suspended me from duty. I get no military allowance for cafeteria meals now. I don’t even have a working wrist terminal.”

He gestured weakly at his wrist, looking ashamed and aggrieved. “I truly did not mean to eat all your food. My body has been weak lately, so my appetite has been out of control.”

Gillian recalled Sylas’s awkward struggle to afford healing metal previously. He was so broke that he didn’t even have money for a meal.

He earned a generous salary. It made no sense for him to constantly lack funds unless he was spending heavily on something else.

After advancing to level 5, Gillian’s senses had grown far sharper. She tilted her nose slightly and caught a faint floral scent lingering in the air, similar to lavender.

It was a soothing aroma used to calm restlessness and anxiety.

The fragrance reminded her of sedative drugs. Her gaze drifted unconsciously toward Sylas’s chest.

Pale, flawless skin peeked out from his V-neck uniform.
