Countless debts were recorded under the names of many soldiers in the 9th Legion.
“What does this green mark stand for? Is it six billion coins?”
Merrick kept a calm look. “That is profit income. Adrian ran a live stream to collect funds yesterday. We got back these six billion coins, and it was split into numerous shares to pay off various creditors right away.”
Gillian gasped in surprise. She checked through all his financial records. She found he owed a total of a trillion coins. His steady income only came from Wasteland City taxes, several transport routes, and two ore routes supplying dark silver ore for building the taint barriers.
The dark silver ore purchase deals were nearing an end. Such gains could never cover the huge fiscal deficit of the Wasteland region.
Gillian closed her wrist terminal and let out a sigh. “How did you end up with so many debts?”
“Gillian, do you think supporting all members of the 9th Legion is an easy task?”
Merrick held her hand gently to soothe her. “Debts stay unpaid as long as one stays alive. We can put off repayment for as long as possible. I cannot stand by and watch the Outer Planets fall into ruin.”
“Then why did you go through property notarization with me?”
Gillian felt utterly stunned. “You have practically passed all these trillion-level debts over to me!”
It was simply the biggest scam ever seen in the beast realm.
Merrick shook his head. “There is no need to panic. All debts are registered under my name. No one will come after you. You only get the right to use my assets.”
His casual words made Gillian take a deep breath.
“Come on, poor guy. I will take you to dig for real treasures.”
Gillian took hold of Merrick’s hand. She thought this fool had shouldered such massive debts all alone. which was truly reckless.
Merrick’s eyes lit up the moment she reached out to hold his hand. This was the very first time she took the initiative to hold his hand.
“Where are we going to dig for treasures?
“Wilder Peak, right?”
Merrick was quite sensitive to her matters. He figured out the location instantly.
It was the mountain range Gillian had bought earlier.

Gillian led him downstairs. The two-story residence was very quiet. Even Tristan, the pink fox. had been sent by Merrick to stay in Sylas’s dormitory.
They did not wish to disturb Mabel, so they slipped out of the courtyard quietly.
“Do you own a private spacecraft? Can you pilot it?”
“I have one, and I know how to fly it.”
As Merrick steered the Little Griffin into the sky with Gillian on board, he already had vague guesses in mind.
It was common knowledge that dark silver ore was abundant across the Wasteland City. He wondered if there was a brand new mithril vein hidden under Wilder Peak.
Even so, such resources could only ease the pressure slightly. Seeing Gillian so excited over it struck him as endearing.
The craft flew forward for quite a while. Noticing Gillian staring blankly out at the sky, Merrick teased her lightly.
“What exactly lies beneath your Wilder Peak? Is it safe for the two of us to head there? Should I call over all the beastman members of the Sovereign Guard to help dig the ground?”
“You will know once we get there. All I know is a blackstone vein lies right here.”
The spacecraft halted mid-air abruptly.
Merrick turned to look straight at her. “Are you being serious?”
“I mean every word.”
A soft smile spread across her delicate face. “I have no exact idea of the total reserve. What I can see is more than enough to push my rank straight up to level 9 with plenty left over.”
“That vast in quantity?”
Merrick pulled her into a tight embrace at once. “If the ore reserve is huge, can you sell a portion to me first? The blackstone bought from Elemental Cities is priced ridiculously high.”
Gillian pushed him away with a smile. “We agreed on the split. Eighty percent for me and twenty percent for you.”
The sight of Merrick’s pile of debts gave her a headache. If the blackstones were available in large amounts, the 9th Legion could use them first. It was an essential material for building defensive barriers and assembling warships.
Still, she would never offer her resources without gaining proper returns.
“Hold on tight, Gillian.”

Merrick sped up sharply. The strong thrust pinned Gillian firmly against her seat.
“You are flying way too fast!”
