“Well, obviously…”

Gillian glanced up at him. “I caught the scent during the fight earlier. Otherwise, how do you think I would have known?”
“It came from your dream, obviously. What kind of person was Elowen in that dream of yours?”
Really, she couldn’t hide a single thing from him.
“Elowen has a one-track heart. That wine of hers has a long story behind it. Last time around, it got smashed. This time, it survived. I’m really glad.”
Just thinking about it made Gillian genuinely happy. She propped her chin on her hand as she talked, her eyes landing on Merrick.
Merrick had a genetic defect that kept him from drinking, and what a real shame that was.
“I’m actually thinking about going over to George’s place.”
“What are you going there for?”
“To raid his cellar for the blackpine cone wine. Speaking of, where has George been lately? I haven’t seen him around at all.”
“He’s out picking up supplies for me. Building the dome takes a lot of materials.”
“I see. Once everything arrives, you can start construction?”
Gillian hadn’t realized things were moving this fast.
“Gillian.”
Gillian heard someone calling her from the doorway and looked up to see Vivienne walking in.
“Vivienne, what brings you here?”
Merrick set down his fork. He had just finished his own meal, and he gathered up the empty boxes on the table.
“I’m the one who asked Vivienne to come. The medical scanner can’t pick up the babies, so I want her to examine you in person.”
“Gillian, let Dr. Parker look you over first. I’ll drive you to the Agriculture Academy myself after.”
Merrick had even called her over personally.
Gillian wasn’t ungrateful. In her last life, childbirth had been brutal. If she could get checked from the start this time around, she and her babies might come through it just fine.

Chapter 170 Twins
“Alright, I’ll do what you say.”
“The
The two of you. You really know how to make me worry.”

Vivienne crossed the room in quick strides and took Gillian’s hand without ceremony.
When Merrick had told her Gillian’s body wasn’t reading right and the medical scanner couldn’t confirm whether the babies were healthy, Vivienne’s stomach had dropped.
Just how many days had passed? How was she already pregnant? Did clerics get pregnant from a single touch or what?
“Vivienne, I’m sorry to make you come out here.”
Gillian felt a bit sheepish. Vivienne had just warned her a few days ago not to rush into motherhood, and here she was already pregnant.
“No bother at all. Let me have a look.”
Even with her grumbling about the worry, Vivienne went straight to Gillian’s side, eased her into the chair, and lifted her wrist to read her pulse.
Wasteland City might be a ruin, but plenty of old medical texts had survived the centuries. Vivienne’s master had been a traditional physician, and the methods he taught her had nothing in common with modern medicine.
Sometimes a woman was too heavy for the scanner to read through her abdomen, and pulse reading was the only way to get a clear picture.
“Gillian, it’s two babies.”
Vivienne’s face lit up with surprise and joy. She hadn’t expected twins. Now her heart went out to Gillian even more, because carrying twins came with real risks compared to a single pregnancy.
Gillian nodded with a smile. Her eyes drifted to Merrick on their own, and a soft smile sat at the corners of his mouth too.
What a goof he was.
Vivienne examined her for a few moments, then let out a relieved breath.
“Both babies are healthy, Gillian, don’t worry. You clerics can sense your own body inside out, but you probably can’t measure the babies’ growth and size very accurately. I’ll send you a development chart in a
bit.”
“Got it. Thank you, Vivienne.”
Gratitude shone all over Gillian’s face. Vivienne, however, shot Merrick a look and signaled for him to step outside with her.
Merrick didn’t quite follow, but he excused himself with Gillian and said he was walking Vivienne out.
