Aurora had zero interest in dealing with Silas. But the guy seemed to lack any sense of social cues, sticking to her like an annoying adhesive bandage that just wouldn’t come off.

“Aurora, do you happen to have any free time tomorrow?” Silas inquired, his face adorned with a hopeful smile.

“I’m busy, Aurora responded, her voice laced with finality.

“So, what’s your preference, Miss Pendleton? Western cuisine? Or perhaps Japanese? I have a friend who owns a rather delightful restaurant. Would you grace us with your presence?” Silas wasn’t giving up; he was hell–bent on getting a date with her.

Aurora had no intention of engaging with him. Her attention shifted as she saw Sophia walk into the party, arm–in–arm with Ethan. The entrance caused quite a commotion, and even Aurora found herself doing a double–take.

Sophia was the rising starlet of the entertainment industry. Her face, a blend of innocence and allure, had made her incredibly popular. Everyone in their social circle knew she was Evelyn’s treasured younger sister, and she was engaged to Ethan from the Song family. So naturally, people treated her with a certain level of deference.

Sophia navigated the party like a peacock in full display. What did it matter if Aurora had tarnished her reputation at school? The school authorities had already dealt with that little hiccup. Sophia remained a hot commodity, and she knew it.

Spotting Aurora, Sophia approached her, her voice tinged with a mocking tone. “So, Aurora, what happened to your little project with Ivy? I told you she wouldn’t make it, didn’t I? Companies aren’t interested in backing an older actress.”

Ivy had indeed gained some traction and established a foothold in the industry, but as Sophia pointed out, no company was willing to invest heavily in an older actress making a comeback. Most of the resources were still out of Ivy’s reach.

Aurora’s eyebrows knitted together. “Sophia, didn’t you learn your lesson last time? Why are you still trying to provoke me?”

Sophia, feigning innocence, leaned into Ethan’s embrace. “Ethan, did you hear that? She’s accusing me of things I didn’t do.”

Ethan was not entirely pleased with how things had unfolded, but Sophia had recently done something to make him quite satisfied. Besides, their families were keen on this alliance, and his mother had advised him not to take these petty squabbles between the girls too seriously. Sophia was beautiful, obedient, and the most pampered daughter of the Pendleton family–a perfect candidate for a wife.

Ethan looked at Aurora, his voice tinged with a hint of admonishment. “Aurora, Sophia is your sister. You shouldn’t be so harsh.”

Aurora chuckled. “On what grounds are you lecturing me?”

Sophia jumped to Ethan’s defense. “How could you speak to Ethan like that? We’re about to get engaged; we’ll be family soon!”

“So?” Aurora raised an eyebrow. “Ho’s going to be your husband, not mine. Why is he meddling in my affairs?”

Sophia smirked triumphantly. “You’re just jealous that Ethan chose me over you.”

Ethan glanced at Aurora’s delicate face. She was indeed beautiful. If only she had been more favored by the Pendleton family, she would have been a good match for,him too. “Aurora, I apologize for any confusion. The person I love is Sophia.”

be so self–absorbed. Or should I say, you two are a match made in narcissistic heaven.”

Sophia was livid. ‘What are you even talking about?‘

Aurora rubbed her cheeks, sore from laughing. “You think I’m jealous of you? With your average looks, average body, and average intelligence? And Ethan, I might have had a crush on you once, but that was when I was foolish enough to be infatuated with just about anything. Also, I’m not a priest; you don’t need to confess your love for Sophia in front of me. I couldn’t care less. Have a happy life and make lots of babies or whatever.”

Ethan’s face flushed a deep shade of red. He had been so presumptuous, and Aurora had never even considered him worthy of her

attention.

Tired of this pointless drama, Aurora turned to leave. Sophia, however, wasn’t about to let her go that easily. “You think you can just walk away after what happened last time?”

Aurora shook off Sophia’s grip and her smile vanished. “Last time was just the beginning, Sophia. Do you know what I’m really jealous of? That someone as mediocre as you could take what should have been mine. Everything you have should belong to me.”

Sophia looked like she was on the verge of tears as she clung to Ethan.

Ethan, clearly unhappy with how things were unfolding, grabbed Aurora’s arm. “Aurora, we’re all family here. Why are you treating Sophia

like this?

Aurora snatched her glass from Sophia’s hand and splashed the remaining champagne right into Ethan’s face. The crowd gasped in disbelief. She wiped her wrist, where Ethan had grabbed her, and spoke, “Mr. Song, let me make this clear for the last time. We’re not close. And we’re not family, so stay out of my business.”

Before Ethan could muster a response, Aurora turned on her heels and walked away. Silas, who had been watching the whole spectacle, felt a pang of envy. He had been planning to swoop in, but Evelyn called him away before he had the chance.
