Chapter 105
The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as everyone greeted Heath. Aurora, feeling a bit like a fish out of water, managed to introduce herself to a few people. She then followed the crowd into the racetrack.
A group of men were impatiently shouting across the track, their voices tinged with anticipation. “Is it ready yet? When are we starting the race?‘

Alaric was sprawled lazily on a plush sofa. He looked up and called out to Heath, “Hey, Heath, how about a spin? The cars are begging to be driven.
Heath shook his head dismissively. “Not interested.”
Alaric looked puzzled, his eyebrows knitting together. “Then what the heck are you doing here, man?”
Heath shot him a glance, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Weren’t you the one who asked me to bring Aurora here?”
Alaric let out an exaggerated sigh, turning to Aurora with a mock–accusing look. “Aurora, you promised not to sell me out. What gives?”
Aurora chuckled awkwardly, her cheeks flushing a light pink. “I didn’t sell you out. He figured it out all by himself.”
Alaric rolled his eyes. “Fine, fine. But since you’re already here, why not take a lap? Live a little!”
Heath looked over at Aurora, as if seeking her approval. Aurora gave a nod, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. “Go on, take a lap. I want to see what this is all about.”
Satisfied, Heath rose from his seat and sauntered off to pick a car, leaving Aurora alone for a moment. She turned to Alaric and asked,
“Where’s Zane?”
Alaric pointed to a sleek black car that was parked on the track. “He’s in there, getting ready for his race.”
Aurora nodded, taking it all in. Just then, a tall, elegant girl walked over to them, her smile radiant. “Hello, I’m Elowen Sterling.”
Aurora looked up to see the girl’s long hair cascading down to her waist. She was dressed in a high–end miniskirt and wore a pair of stylish high heels. Her eyes were soft, her demeanor gentle. Aurora stood up and extended her hand. “Nice to meet you, I’m Aurora Pendleton.”
Alaric jumped in to make introductions. “Aurora, meet Elowen. She’s like family; we all grew up together.”
Aurora nodded, her smile polite but reserved.
Elowen looked Aurora up and down before asking, “I haven’t seen you around before. Are you from another city?”
“I’m from Seaview,” Aurora replied, her voice neutral.
Elowen leaned in a bit, her eyes narrowing. “Heath rarely brings girls to these events. How did you two meet?”
Aurora felt a twinge of irritation. She barely knew Elowen; why should she divulge personal details? “You might want to ask Heath about that,” she said, deflecting the question.

Chapter 105
:
Elowen chuckled, her laughter a bit too sweet. “Oh, Heath is always so busy. Even when I visit his home, he’s hardly ever there.”

Aurora’s eyes widened. Was this girl marking her territory? She decided to play it cool. “Well, you can ask him now. He’s right over there,” she said, nodding in Heath’s direction.
Elowen’s smile didn’t waver. “Oh, it’s no big deal. Everyone in our circle knows all about Heath.”
Aurora felt a stab of annoyance. Was Elowen implying she didn’t belong in their ‘circle‘?
Alaric, sensing the tension, frowned at Elowen. “Don’t mind her, Aurora. Elowen, you should watch what you’re saying.”
Elowen covered her mouth as if she’d made a faux pas. “Oh, I didn’t mean to offend. It’s just that I was surprised to see Aurora and Heath so close, especially since he never mentioned her to us.”
Aurora felt her patience wearing thin. This girl was passive–aggressive, and it was starting to get under her skin. “That’s funny,” she retorted, “because Heath never mentioned you to me either.”
Elowen’s face flushed a shade of pink, clearly caught off guard. Aurora didn’t stop there. “In fact, when Heath invited me to this event, he only mentioned that Zane would be here, along with some other people he’s not particularly close to. He never specifically mentioned
you.”
Elowen looked visibly upset, her lips quivering. Alaric slapped his forehead, as if regretting the whole conversation.
“Why stir the pot?” he thought to himself. “Aurora’s not someone to be trifled with.”
Sensing that things were about to escalate into a full–blown argument, Alaric took charge. He pulled Elowen aside and said, “Let’s focus on the race, shall we?”
Elowen sat down next to Alaric, her eyes a bit watery. “Do you think Aurora doesn’t like me?”
Aurora couldn’t help but think, “You got that right. I really don’t like you.”
Alaric patted Elowen on the head, trying to comfort her. “Don’t worry, Aurora’s a good person. She’s just not familiar with you yet.”
Elowen finally broke into a smile and sat next to Alaric, watching the race attentively. Every now and then, she’d whisper something into Alaric’s ear, making him laugh.
Aurora couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Was Elowen into Heath but keeping Alaric as a backup?
Meanwhile, Heath had joined the race. He was driving a sleek, gray sports car that clearly had some serious horsepower. Heath’s driving skills were on point, and he quickly took the lead, Only Zane, in his black sports car, was keeping pace.
Alaric, now visibly anxious, blurted out, “If Zane beats Heath, I’m buying him a new car!”
Elowen chuckled, “Heath’s got this. He holds the track record, after all.”
Alaric glanced at Elowen’s smiling face, his eyes darkening for a moment but said nothing. Aurora chimed in, “Looks like Zane’s going to
lose.”
Alaric looked intrigued, “You’re that sure, Aurora?”

Aurora grinned, “Wanna bet?”
Alaric’s eyes lit up, “What’s the wager?”
:
Aurora’s smile turned sly, “Bet your company’s next ad campaign. If I win, it’s mine.”
Alaric sighed, “Fine, it’s just an ad. But if you lose, forget about that movie deal.”
He didn’t want Zane causing trouble and getting thrown into the Pacific by Heath.
Aurora nodded, “During his second turn, Zane’s car slid a bit. Looks like he’s got an old tire on the left and a new one on the right. His car’s balance won’t be as good as Heath’s, and he won’t keep up.”
No sooner had she spoken than Heath’s car crossed the finish line, with Zane trailing behind. Zane got out of his car, shot Heath an annoyed look, and yelled, “Come on, Heath! Couldn’t you let me win just once?”
As the two men walked over, Alaric joked, “Heath, you just cost me an ad campaign to Aurora.”
Heath raised an eyebrow, looking at Aurora, “You were that sure I’d win?”
Aurora blushed slightly, “Well, aren’t you good at everything?”
Heath playfully tousled her hair, “So, what’s my reward for winning?”
Aurora thought for a moment, “How about I treat you to some sweet and sour fish?”

Heath nodded in agreement. Elowen watched their interaction, seething with jealousy. She’d known Heath for years, and he’d never smiled
at her like that.
