After the award ceremony, there’s usually a fancy dinner, but Daxton and Cheryl didn’t stick around for it. They grabbed their assistant and dipped out the back door, where two cars were waiting for them.

Seeing Zane leaning against one of the cars threw Cheryl and Daxton for a loop, but they shrugged it off and hopped into Aurora’s ride.

Zane led the way, with Jay trailing behind them. Cheryl couldn’t help but ask, “Aurora, what’s up with Zane being here?”

Aurora flashed a grin, “I signed him up. He’s part of Fairview Media now.”

Cheryl made a face, “Why’d you go and sign him?”

Aurora chuckled, “Zane’s a hidden gem, I plan to make the most of his talents!”

Daxton chimed in, “Aurora’s got a killer instinct for this stuff. Plus, having another person on board is cool.”

Cheryl was less than thrilled. She could hardly exchange three words with Zane without sparking an argument. Looks like her chill days

were over.

When they got to the restaurant, they barely stepped in before noticing a crowd heading upstairs. Zane nudged Aurora, “Look, Heath is over there.”

Aurora looked up just in time to catch Heath glancing back at her. He didn’t say anything, just continued upstairs.

Aurora felt weird about her thing with Heath. Were they dating? Heath never really put a label on it. Just friends? But he was super attentive. It was complicated.

She didn’t want to spill too much in front of Daxton and Cheryl, so she followed Zane into the private room.

The four of them ordered and sat down, the vibe was kinda awkward.

Zane had this boss–like demeanor, Daxton was shy and quiet, and Cheryl wasn’t talking either. Aurora, feeling the awkwardness, raised her glass, “First off, cheers to Daxton for his killer debut and snagging the Best Newcomer award!”

Zane scoffed, but Aurora shot him a look, and he lifted his glass, mumbling a “Congrats.”

Daxton blushed a bit from the booze, “All thanks to you, Aurora. I wouldn’t be here without you.”

Cheryl pulled him back down, “Cut it out, we’re all family here. Aurora doesn’t need your thanks.”

Cheryl had a bit too much to drink and excused herself to the restroom but didn’t come back.

Daxton went to check on her and came back in a minute, “Aurora, you better check this out, Cheryl’s been cornered by Sophia.”

“Sophia Pendleton?” Aurora was taken aback. Was Sophia also at this restaurant?

“Yeah, looks like Sophia’s dining with friends here. I overheard that Cheryl’s been blocked in the restroom,” Daxton explained.

Before Aurora could say a word, Zane stood up, flung the private room door open, and bolted. Daxton blinked in surprise and asked, “Is he seriously about to storm the ladies‘ room?”

Aurora cracked a smile, “Let him go. He’ll bring Cheryl back. No need for me to step in.”

Daxton had barely left when the door swung open again. Aurora turned and was taken aback–Heath?

She stood up, “What are you doing here?”

Heath strolled over, tilted her chin up, and planted a kiss on her, leaving Aurora stunned and speechless. He stepped back, smirking slightly.

Aurora slapped a hand over his mouth, “What the heck?!”

Heath caught her hand and pinned it against the wall, “Have you been drinking?”

Aurora glared at him, “Yeah, so what?”

“No more drinking for you tonight. I’ve got stuff to handle and can’t drive you,” Heath said.

So he came all the way down here just to stop her from drinking??

Aurora rolled her eyes, “I don’t need your ride! I can get home on my own, and Jay’s picking me up anyway!”

Heath leaned in, resting his head on her shoulder, “Then you might as well drive me home. I’ve had a few too many.”

Aurora was skeptical, “You don’t look drunk to me.”

Heath murmured, “Give it a minute. The schmoozing tonight’s a killer.”

Aurora scoffed, “I’m not your chauffeur. Get Kieran to do it.”

Heath didn’t budge, “Kieran’s tied up. If you don’t drive me, I’ll have to drive myself.”

Aurora sighed, exasperated.

Was this guy always so shamelessly clingy??
