Aurora woke up and it was already the next morning. She blinked open her groggy eyes and sat up, still wearing yesterday’s jeans, but her top had been swapped for an oversized T–shirt.
Glancing around at the familiar surroundings, she let out a sigh of relief. Yesterday hadn’t been a dream; Heath really had come to her
rescue
Just as she sat up, the bedroom door swung open and in walked Heath, sporting the same style of T–shirt as hers, his arm carrying a pale pink garment that was unexpectedly cute by contrast.
“Is this yours?” Aurora pointed at the T–shirt she was wearing.
“Yep, Heath nodded. “Your clothes were ruined, and since we didn’t have any pajamas for you, I just grabbed something for you to change
into.”
Aurora’s cheeks flushed. So, it was Heath who had changed her clothes?
Heath sat down beside her bed, looking at her seriously. “I only gave you a quick check for injuries yesterday. Go to the bathroom and take off your pants to check if there are other injuries, and don’t forget to apply the ointment Lysander left for you in there.”
He placed the pale pink garment on the bed. “I bought you new pajamas, go change into them in the bathroom. You’ve got quite a few scrapes, so better not to shower just yet. Just freshen up and come out for breakfast, okay?”
Aurora looked at Heath. He was different today; usually so reserved and cool, but now here he was, sitting on her bed, fussing over these little things, looking at her as if she were a fragile porcelain doll.
Aurora tugged at the hem of Heath’s T–shirt and looked up at him. “Heath, what’s going on with you?”
He looked down at her, his eyes filled with tenderness and regret, and a faint trace of pain. He gently stroked her slightly swollen cheek, whispering, “It’s my fault you got hurt.”
Aurora smiled, still holding onto his shirt. “It’s okay, look at me, I’m fine. Don’t worry about the injuries…”
She was genuinely happy, especially knowing that when she was in dire need, the person she wanted to come for her did–Heath Fairbank.
Maybe if Heath hadn’t come, she would have eventually gathered enough strength to leave on her own, but when he covered her with clothes and held her in his arms, she felt truly warm.
In that chaotic moment, she fell asleep in his arms, feeling completely at ease.
Without waiting for her to finish, Heath pulled her into his embrace, his arms tightening inch by inch, his large hand stroking her soft hair, as if he could finally feel the girl, alive and breathing in his arms, closing her eyes in peace. He whispered near her ear, “I’m just glad
you’re okay,”
Aurora’s nose tingled, and she hugged Heath tighter around the waist. This man had a real knack for making her tear up time and again, forcing her to trust and depend on him more and more.
Pulling back from his embrace, she said, “I want sweet and sour fish, can we have that?”

Chapter 129
He nodded. ‘Sure, go change and I’ll go get it.”
Aurora stepped into the bathroom and took off her shirt, her bra stained with blood. Heath had only wiped her exposed skin, not carelessly stripping off her clothes.

She threw the soiled garments into the trash and noticed bruises and scrapes all over her body, the aftermath of being pushed and pulled by Silas the day before.
After carefully applying the ointment and changing into her pajamas, she washed her face, and only then did she step out of her room.
In the dining room, Heath had already brought back the sweet and sour fish, noticing her awkward gait as she walked in.
Heath looked down, seeing the large bruises and scrapes on her calf. Aurora smiled at him reassuringly, “It’s okay, just surface wounds, they’ll heal in a few days.”
Heath’s face was tense as he picked her up and set her down on a chair in the dining room. Standing up to get her utensils, he said, “Even if it’s just surface wounds, it still hurts me.”
Aurora didn’t respond as Heath brought over the food and they sat down to eat.
Aurora suddenly asked, “That… Silas… is he dead?”
Heath’s face was stern. “Not dead, in the hospital.”
Aurora breathed a sigh of relief. In that critical moment, she had to be ruthless, but if Silas had really died, she would have been marked by blood once again.
Aurora glanced up at Heath’s expression, querying, “What are you going to do with him?”
Heath served her a piece of fish, “Eat.”
Aurora felt helpless; Heath didn’t want to tell her. He wouldn’t be planning to quietly finish Silas off, would he?
“Heath, don’t do anything stupid, it’s not worth dirtying your hands over such scum,” Aurora said, a bit worried that in a fit of anger, Heath might actually kill Silas.
Heath looked up at her, “Don’t worry, I won’t.”
Only then did Aurora lower her head to eat, but mid–meal, she suddenly remembered, “I haven’t been home for a day, what about Grandpa?”
Heath said, “I had Jay tell him that I took you to the U.S. We’ll leave after we eat. In a few days, when your wounds are better, we’ll come
back.”
Aurora nodded, her mind buzzing with the thought of going to America, her thoughts a jumbled mess.
After the meal, Aurora changed into a long dress, and Heath carried her downstairs.
Aurora felt resigned; it seemed that whenever she was injured, Heath assumed she couldn’t walk and always ended up carrying her.

Chapter 129
At the airport, Kieran went to handle their check–in, and Aurora asked, “Does Kieran have my documents?”
Heath nodded, “Jay gave him your documents and luggage, don’t worry.”
It wasn’t until she was on the plane that Aurora fully realized she was going to America.
During the lengthy flight, she was unbearably sleepy, dozing off into a cold slumber.

Heath had Kieran get a blanket to cover her. The girl curled up under the blanket, snuggled obediently in his arms to sleep, her eyelashes distinct and delicate, like a fairy untouched by the mortal world.
She slept all the way to America, and when she woke up, they were just landing. Stepping onto American soil again, her emotions were complex.
She didn’t know who her parents were. Since her earliest memories, she had been in the Abyss, endlessly training to become the most perfect weapon in Dominic’s hands, but the long years of companionship had birthed different emotions in her, though she did not know if Dominic’s feelings for her were different from those for Isabella.
At death’s door, Isabella’s words had swirled around her like a curse.
Isabella had said she was nothing more than a knife from the Abyss, a pawn, always ready to be sacrificed.
Yes, she was born a pawn, after all.
