Chapter 137
:
Heath had been sitting in the living room since he woke up, his gaze fixed on a pair of blood–stained high heels on the coffee table.
Aurora’s high heels.
Just moments ago, she was dancing gracefully, holding his hand, and then suddenly, they were separated by the crowd.
He knew, Eamon had confirmed it, the blood on the shoes wasn’t hers.
So where was she?
“Boss, it’s time for your medication,” Kieran said, approaching with a glass of water.
Heath, clutching his shoulder, winced in pain and asked, “Have you found her?”
Kieran shook his head, remaining silent.
Heath held the water glass in his right hand, his head bowed, not uttering a word.
He couldn’t care less about what relationship Aurora had with Dominic Ashcroft or whom she harbored in her heart. His mind was consumed with thoughts of her smiling face.
As long as she returned safely.
The doorbell rang.
Kieran stood up to open the door, seeing Aurora standing there. He thought he was dreaming.
Excitedly he shouted, “Boss! Miss Aurora! She’s back!”

Heath stood up abruptly from the couch, seeing Aurora walk in with a smile.
Her beautiful evening gown was tattered, her makeup smudged, and her face was dirt–streaked. She scratched her head awkwardly and said, ‘Kieran, could you please pay the taxi? I didn’t bring any money.”
Kieran nodded and hurried downstairs to pay.
Aurora, frowning, walked up to Heath, looking at his bandaged arm, and asked, “What happened to your hand?”
Heath reached out with his right hand and pulled her into his embrace, sighing as if he had survived a calamity. “Rory, where did you go?”
Aurora raised her hand to stroke his back, comforting him, “I just got separated from you, but I’m back now, aren’t I?”
Heath let her go, examining her anxiously, “Are you hurt?”
Aurora shook her head. “I’m not hurt. It seems like you are, though?”

She pointed at his arm and asked, “What happened there?”
Heath’s eyes darkened. “It’s nothing, just a small injury.”
Aurora stared at him. “Heath, don’t lie to me.”

Heath reached up to smooth her disheveled hair, saying, “As long as you’re safe. Go take a shower and have something to eat.”
Aurora shrugged. “Okay.”
She returned to her room, discarded her evening gown in the trash, and went to take a shower.
Waking up in the hotel where Carly and the others were staying, it was already afternoon. She had slept the entire day, waking up hungry. After a quick check on Jasper’s injuries and ensuring they were minor, she advised them to leave early and took a taxi back to the hotel.
She had promised Heath not to lie, so she couldn’t make up a reason for her whereabouts. She simply stated she got lost.
But Heath’s injuries, the gunfight she witnessed last night, and the moment she shot the bald man to save Heath’s life told her that Heath was not the simple businessman he appeared to be.
He had his own organization, one that seemed as powerful as the Abyss from yesterday’s events.
After her shower, Aurora, drying her hair, walked out of her room to find Heath calling her to dinner.
The hotel had delivered the meal. Aurora sat at the table, seeing Heath awkwardly handling his food. She cut her steak and offered it to him, saying, “Eat this one.”
She took his plate and quietly ate her meal.
Heath watched the girl opposite him, slowly cutting her steak, her face showing none of the panic and fear a typical girl would have.
It seemed like last night’s gunfight was trivial to her.
She didn’t even ask why it happened,
Her indifference seemed like she already knew everything.
‘Rory, where did you go yesterday?” Heath asked.
Aurora paused while cutting her steak, not responding.
“Can’t you say?” Heath pressed.
“I got lost; I don’t know where I went,” Aurora said, her head bowed.
“What about today? You only returned to the hotel tonight; where were you during the day?” Heath set down his fork and wiped his mouth with a napkin.
“I was too tired and found a place to sleep,” she replied.

Chapter 137
“A young lady, alone in unfamiliar America, found a place to sleep? Heath retorted.
Aurora, still cutting her steak, replied, “Heath, I’m not your prisoner. I don’t need to report my whereabouts to you.”
The atmosphere suddenly turned icy. Heath’s expression darkened, but Aurora continued to eat her steak calmly.
“Rory, who is Dominic Ashcroft?‘ Heath asked.
Aurora tensed, her hand pausing. “Didn’t you meet him yesterday?”
Heath clearly saw her small gestures, interpreting them as signs of her guilt.
“I mean, what is Dominic Ashcroft to you?” he asked, his face turning ashen.
Aurora forced a smile, dropping her fork onto the plate with a clatter. She wiped her mouth and said, “I’m full.”

She stood up and walked toward her room. Heath stood up suddenly, the chair scraping loudly across the floor. He grabbed Aurora, forcing her to turn and look into his eyes. “Who is Dominic Ashcroft?”
Aurora met his gaze. “Why were you injured?”
Heath paused, not answering.
“Heath, I promised not to lie to you, but I didn’t promise to reveal everything. You have your secrets, and I have mine. Can’t we respect
each other?” Aurora said.
For Heath, not telling Aurora about his power was for her safety.
But were the things Aurora chose not to reveal for his sake? Or to protect someone else?
The man she couldn’t stop thinking about even when drunk.
He gripped Aurora’s arm tightly, asking word by word, “I just want to know, what is your relationship with Dominic Ashcroft?‘
Aurora shook off his hand and tersely responded, “No comment!”
She returned to her room and slammed the door, collapsing onto the bed.
She knew this day would inevitably come.
She had promited not to lie, so she didn’t fabricate any reasons to deceive Heath. But she couldn’t tell him who Dominic Ashcroft was.
Heath sat on the living room couch, breathing heavily. In his eyes, Aurora was fiercely protecting Dominic Ashcroft, even confronting him.
He touched his shoulder, the tugging earlier aggravating his wound, now throbbing painfully,
Heath removed his shirt, revealing a blood–soaked bandage on his shoulder. The wound Lysander had barely managed to close was open again.
