Chapter 160
Aurora turned to see Sebastian and Madeline storm in, Sebastian demanding, “Where’s Aurora!”
Aurora stood up, “What do you need?”
Sebastian pointed at her, “You think you can hide here and I won’t know what you’ve done?”
Aurora smiled, “I’m not hiding. I’ve always been here.”
Sebastian, caught off–guard, ordered, “Go to the police station and set things straight!”
Aurora crossed her arms, “What do you want me to say, Mr. Pendleton?”
“Say that Sophia didn’t kidnap you! It was just a sisterly spat! No need to involve the police!” Sebastian bellowed.
“So, you want me to perjure myself?” Aurora raised an eyebrow.

Sebastian, infuriated by her lack of deference, yelled, “You ungrateful daughter! Can’t you act like one? Always causing trouble! Are you satisfied only if your own sister ends up in jail?”
“Enough!” her grandfather slammed his cane. “You talk about Aurora not acting like a daughter. What about you as a father? Have you ever truly looked after her? Blaming her for trouble, when it was Sophia who committed a crime?”
Sebastian was left speechless. Madeline, in tears, knelt down, “Dad, please, help Sophia. She’s too young for jail. Aurora, please, let me beg you. Take out your frustrations on me, but spare Sophia.”
Aurora scoffed, “You think she’s innocent? Weren’t you the one who falsely accused me of being pregnant before marriage? Who knows if you were involved this time? You care so much for Sophia, why not join her in jail?”
“Insolent!” Sebastian, boiling with anger, raised his hand to strike Aurora, but she blocked him, her gaze icy, “Mr. Pendleton, you seem to forget, I’ve said it before, you have no right to call yourself my father, let alone to hit me!”
Madeline threw herself at Sebastian’s legs, crying, “Don’t hit her, she’s still young. Let’s talk it out. She’ll listen.”
Sebastian, heartbroken, helped his wife up. His beloved wife kneeling for Aurora was infuriating.
Madeline, tears streaming down, pleaded, “Dad, please persuade Aurora. Even if Sophia is naive, she’s still Pendleton’s daughter. Can we really send her to jail? She can’t endure that hardship…”
Madeline continued her tearful pleas, knowing that if Grandfather spoke up, Aurora would no longer pursue the matter.
The old man sighed with resignation, turning to Aurora. “Girl, I’ll give you the shares, but let’s put this matter to rest. If a Pendleton ends up in jail, it’s not exactly a badge of honor. I can’t face such a disgrace.”
“Dad! How can you give her the shares?” Sebastian blurted out in dismay.

He had worked long at the company but only managed to keep it running, never excelling. The old man had never mentioned giving him
any shares.

Sebastian had resigned himself to this, believing that after his father’s passing, the shares would essentially belong to Maxwell, which made no difference to him. But now, the sudden decision to give the shares to Aurora felt like a robbery.
“Shut up! What’s more important, the shares or your daughter’s life? Do you even care about Sophia?” Grandpa scolded.
Madeline, tugging at Sebastian’s sleeve, whispered, “Let it go, dear. Sophia matters more.”
Sebastian relented, though unhappily.
Aurora, clearly displeased, questioned, “Is it really honorable for Sophia to return as a pampered lady after nearly committing murder?”
Grandpa huffed, “Pampered lady? After what she’s done, she has no right to stay. Send her abroad! Far away, and don’t come back!”
Madeline burst into tears, “Dad! Sophia has never been away from home. How will she cope abroad? And what about her engagement to the Song family?”
The engagement had been swiftly called off by the Song family. Face–savingly, they had politely set a date to formally break it off, but
their disdain was evident.
Despite Madeline and Sebastian’s attempts to salvage it, the Song family was adamant about the breakup. They wouldn’t marry their son to a woman scorned by the public.
Sophia, knowing this, had thrown a tantrum at home. Aurora had ruined everything for her, even taking away her Ethan.
Grandfather pounded the floor in anger, “What can I do? She’s brought this disgrace upon herself. How could the Song family marry her now? They’re a prominent family; they can have their pick of daughters–in–law. You’ve all shamed me!”
“Dad…” Madeline started.
“Enough! It’s either this or back to the police station!” he declared firmly.
Madeline immediately fell silent.
Grandfather turned to Aurora, who nodded, “If she’s no longer the pampered lady, then her living expenses can go through Leen, right? Can we calculate it based on an ordinary family’s budget?”
Grandfather agreed and instructed Leen to fetch the share transfer documents.
Leen brought the contract from the study, and Grandfather skimmed through it. “I planned to leave each of you girls 2% of the shares. Now, including Sophia’s share, I’m giving you 4%.”
Aurora signed the document, and Leen took it away, helping the old man back to his room. The whole ordeal had left him exhausted.
Sebastian, glaring at Aurora, was furious. He owned only 5% of the shares, and now Aurora suddenly had 4%.
Unbeknownst to Sebastian, with the shares her grandfather gave her after her high school exams, Aurora already held 9% of the shares, nearly surpassing that of Maxwell.
As soon as her grandpa left, Sebastian burst out, “Ungrateful child! How did I end up with a daughter like you!”

Aurora sneered, “Believe me, I’m just as annoyed to share blood with you. After all, your darling daughter Sophia, a murder conspirator and a habitual liar, sets a standard I could never reach!”
“Aurora, how can you speak to your father like that?” Madeline, the picture of a dutiful wife and mother, stood behind Sebastian.
Aurora chuckled, “How should I speak to you? Oh, right, about your earlier question – it’s not just about getting Sophia jailed. I’d rather see her dead!
Sebastian’s face turned crimson with anger. Aurora turned and headed upstairs, remarking, “Don’t bother seeing me out. Remember, if you keep making a scene, Grandpa won’t be pleased. Soon, Sophia won’t even have the chance to flee abroad.”
Sebastian, left with no choice, pulled Madeline away, retreating to their own villa.
Sophia sat in her room, crying non–stop amidst the chaos of broken objects. “Mom, I don’t want to go abroad. Please talk to Grandpa, I’ll behave, I promise. Just don’t send me away!” she sobbed uncontrollably.
Madeline consoled her, “Sweetheart, studying abroad isn’t so bad. I’ll visit often, don’t worry. Once Grandfather cools down, your father
and I will bring you back.”
