Elowen was seething with anger. Composing herself, she approached Heath, removed her mask, and smiled, Heath, may I have this dance with you?

Heath’s expression turned colder. Elowen’s presence was unwelcome, and her relentless pursuit only added to his annoyance.

I have to leave,Heath replied, turning to Kieran, Please fetch my coat.

Kieran promptly brought the coat, a dark red one, and helped Heath slip into it. The color, unexpectedly, suited him remarkably well.

However, it was dark red, not black.

Elowen clenched her teeth in frustration. She knew Aurora had chosen the dark red coat, but she was certain Heath would never indulge

in such whims; he always preferred black!

The dark red coat, coupled with Heath’s choice of dance partner, was beyond Elowen’s belief.

Turning to Aurora, Elowen asked coldly, staring at her mask, Hey, are you Miss Aurora?

Aurora replied with a slight smile, You have good eyesight.

It was Aurora again! The only person Heath seemed to notice!

Heath, now dressed, gave some instructions to Kieran about the annual meeting and left the hall with Aurora.

Heath never stayed till the end of the annual meeting, a fact well known to his employees. However, this time, leaving with a dance partner sparked many speculative conversations.

Biting her lip, Elowen watched as Heath left, then tightened Aurora’s coat protectively and escorted her to the parking lot.

Such patience, such tenderness it was something Elowen had never experienced. Why her? Elowen had grown up with Heath, and she had been the first to fall for him!

Aurora, an unexpected rival, had completely captivated Heath. How could Elowen accept this? She had always dreamed of marrying Heath!

From a renowned family, she was destined to marry the best, and Heath was the only one worthy of her.

Suddenly, Elowen remembered Alaric,

If Heath was out of reach, she might settle for Alaric,

Turning around, Elowen searched for Alaric. Known for his striking appearance and a regular at various social events, he was easy to spot.

Just as Elowen was about to approach him, Alaric turned and walked away.

Elowen was sure he had seen her. Alaric had always been attentive to her, but this time, he chose to leave.

Perhaps Alaric was uncertain about continuing this seemingly endless pursuit.

He had always followed Elowen, who only had eyes for Heath. It was only when Heath was out of the picture that Elowen would even glance at Alaric.

Irritated by Elowen’s pleading look, Alaric decided he needed some distance from her, especially after seeing her being rejected by Heath once again.

Turning away, he noticed a woman sitting alone in the crowd, dressed in a white gown and wearing a halfmask. Approaching her, he asked, Are you Miss Thornfield, who came with Cheryl and Aurora?

Vespera replied with a small smile, Sir, you have a good memory.

Alaric put down his glass and extended his hand, Would you honor me with a dance?

Vespera, slightly uncomfortable, hesitated, I don’t dance.

Alaric took her hand, reassuringly, I’ll teach you. It’s quite simple.

Vespera truly struggled with dancing, stepping on Alaric’s feet several times and awkwardly scratching her head. However, Alaric didn’t mind; it was his first time teaching someone to dance, and he rather enjoyed it.

Elowen sat in a corner, watching Alaric dance with another woman. That clumsy woman had stepped on him so many times, yet Alaric seemed pleased!

Had everyone gone mad? Why couldn’t anyone see her?

Nearby, Zane was dancing with Cheryl, nagging her, Can’t you be more mindful of your image? You’re a celebrity, after all. If someone asks you to dance, you should accept.

Cheryl retorted, Didn’t you ask me to dance? Here I am.

Zane continued, Am I just anyone? We’re family!

Cheryl stepped on his foot in response, Shut up!

Zane yelped in pain, Are you even a lady?

Rolling her eyes, Cheryl suggested, Let’s stop dancing and go play video games.

Zane immediately agreed, Let’s go. I didn’t want to stay here anyway.

After greeting Alaric, Zane and Cheryl left to play video games. Vespera also seemed tired, so Alaric offered to take her home.

On the way, they passed

boutique where Vespera bought a crystal ball as a New Year’s gift for Alaric, thanking him for the dance lesson.

Alaric placed the crystal ball in his car, feeling unexpectedly uplifted. Life didn’t seem as bad as he had thought.

The next day, Aurora was woken by her phone. Her assistant sent frantic messages about Zane and Cheryl trending on social media.

Aurora checked her social media and saw ZaneCheryl playing video gamesat the top of the trending list. She clicked on the news to find photos of Zane and Cheryl, dressed casually and wearing matching baseball caps, playing video games all night at an internet café. They had been recognized and secretly photographed, causing an instant sensation.

There was even a video clip of Cheryl yelling at Zane, If you mess up again, I’ll hit you!

Zane retorted, I’m not messing up; I’m just off my game!

Aurora quickly got ready, grabbed a couple of buns from the dining room, and had Jay drive her to the studio. She reviewed the news again in the car.

Upon arrival at the studio, she found Zane and Cheryl in her office, looking down with dark circles under their eyes like pandas.

Aurora, rubbing her forehead, asked, Weren’t you supposed to be at the annual meeting yesterday?

Zane grimaced, The meeting was boring, so I took Cheryl to play video games.

Cheryl was about to say it was her idea, but Zane interjected, What’s going to happen to me?

Aurora looked at him, What do you mean? Am I supposed to call the police because you played a game? This could be a big deal or not, good or bad. My job is to make it a good, big deal, that’s all.

Fortunately, Zane and Cheryl’s fans were mostly young and used to their idols playing video games. They even clamored for Zane and Cheryl’s game IDs, asking to team up.

Aurora’s PR team steered the narrative towards playful selfmockery, portraying them as internetaddicted youths.

Zane tweeted, I really don’t mess up!

The comments varied:

Carry me, please!

I don’t believe you unless you team up with me!

Cheryl said you’re a disaster. Case closed!

*Please tell Cheryl I want to play games with her.

As the situation settled, news came from Evelyn about her upcoming endorsement for the new online game Sword Immortal.

For Aurora, the struggle with Madeline and Sophia had already begun. With Sophia forced abroad and Evelyn keen to push her out of the Pendleton family, Aurora had no choice but to climb higher and bring Evelyn down.
