“Mr. President, Miss Aurora returned home this afternoon, and not long after, she was pulled into a car by his brother Maxwell, Kieran reported.

“Maxwell? Where did he take her?” Heath asked, puzzled.

‘I don’t know. The car hit the highway and seemed to be heading towards Silverbay Island,” Kieran responded.

He was perplexed. Why would Maxwell take Aurora to Silverbay Island for no apparent reason?

Heath redialed Aurora’s phone, still finding it switched off. He grabbed his coat and headed out, commanding, “Let’s follow them. Have someone intercept Maxwell at Silverbay Island’s shore!”

Kieran hurriedly asked, “The shore? How do you know Maxwell will take Aurora there?”

Heath didn’t answer. Striding towards the elevator, he instinctively felt that Maxwell’s impromptu trip to Silverbay Island must be because of the sunrise he watched with Aurora at the beach.

The highway was clear, allowing Maxwell’s high–performance car to speed along.

Aurora struggled several times to no avail and resigned herself to sitting quietly. She wasn’t about to risk grabbing the steering wheel; she valued her life too much. She sat there, wondering where Maxwell was taking her.

After leaving the highway, Maxwell drove straight to the beach. Arriving, Aurora was stunned. This was where she had spent New Year’s Eve with Heath. Why had Maxwell brought her here?

Maxwell parked and, without a word, got out, opened the passenger door, and pulled Aurora towards the beach. Her wrist ached from his grip as she stumbled along, getting sand in her shoes, which rubbed painfully against her feet.

Reaching the beach, Aurora sat down abruptly, thankful she wore shorts, sparing her some embarrassment.

Sitting on the sand, she removed her shoes, emptied the sand, and stood up, holding her shoes. “Why have you brought me here?” she asked.

Maxwell gazed at her intensely, his eyes shadowed and unreadable, “Aurora, I’m giving you one last chance to back off.”

“Ha, Aurora laughed sarcastically. “Or what? You’ll throw me into the sea to feed the fish?”

His look turned fierce yet pained, clear yet intense. “Aurora, you know I would never hurt you.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t know that,” Aurora shook her head. “You’re Evelyn’s brother, not mine. You would definitely hurt me.”

“Aurora… Maxwell began.

“Maxwell, I’ve said it many times. I am in opposition to your mother, your sister, and you by birthright have chosen your side. No matter what you say, I will never believe you,” Aurora said calmly, looking into his eyes.

She knew Maxwell could never be her brother; they were only enemies.

“So, you’d rather trust Heath? You chose to spend New Year’s Eve with him?” Maxwell’s tone was urgent, always angered at the mention of Aurora and Heath.

Aurora couldn’t help but laugh, a mix of helplessness and confusion. “Maxwell, you and Evelyn didn’t spend New Year’s Eve at home either. Why can’t I spend it with someone else?”

“It’s not about you going out. It’s that you’re getting too close to Heath,” Maxwell said.

“Say what you want. I’m not explaining myself to you,” Aurora dismissed with a wave of her hand, turning to leave.

Maxwell grabbed her. “Aurora! Listen! Stay away from that guy!”

She turned back, her face cold. “Maxwell, who I associate with is my business. You’re overstepping.”

“Aurora! You have no idea how dangerous he really is!” Maxwell raised his voice.

“Then tell me, how dangerous is he?” Aurora challenged.

“You think Heath is just a businessman? Do you know what else he’s involved in? Did you know there was a shootout at Silverbay Island’s dock on New Year’s Eve?” Maxwell pressed.

“A shootout? I…” Aurora was taken aback.

“You didn’t know because Heath was with you setting off fireworks, masking the sound of gunfire. Do you know what they were fighting over? How many people died? You know nothing! You’ve been blinded by that man!” Maxwell roared.

He wasn’t sure why he was so angry–whether it was worry for her or frustration at her–but seeing her standing there, clueless, infuriated

him.
