Chapter 202
Before cutting the cake, there was a knock at the door. Aurora asked Little Fish to pour wine for her grandpa and went to answer the door. She was stunned to see the person outside: “Hea… Heath?”
Heath, in a white shirt with a suit jacket draped over his arm and hair partly covering his brows, looked a bit weary.
“Why are you here?” Aurora asked coldly.
She hadn’t had any contact with Heath these past few days. They hadn’t called or messaged each other, seemingly in a perpetual cold war.
But Aurora knew that Holt had broken an arm and a leg and had been refused by hospitals. Knowing he had offended Heath, his family had no choice but to send him abroad for treatment.
Aurora returned to Seaview with her grandfather, deliberately not informing anyone else. Lately, her mood had been tumultuous, and she couldn’t bear the thought of staying in the capital. If only she didn’t have to return tomorrow, then she wouldn’t have to face Heath. She yearned to flee far away, never to see him again.
Heath observed the girl before him. It had been a few days since they last met, and she seemed thinner. Her chin was sharper, and the wound on her forehead was scabbing over. Despite the healing, his heart ached. Holt had dared to hit her with his car; Heath thought he should destroy that despicable man.
Aurora’s gaze on Heath was cold and silent.
“Won’t you invite me in?” Heath asked with a raised eyebrow.
Reluctantly, Aurora opened the door, leading Heath to the dining room. “Grandfather, Mr. Fairbank is here,” she announced.
Heath shook his head with resignation. Whenever Aurora was upset, she referred to him as ‘Mr. Fairbank‘.
Her grandpa looked up, surprised, as Heath greeted him with respect, “Grandpa, may your wealth and prosperity flow like an endless river, and your life be as enduring and majestic as the grandest mountain ranges.”
Grandpa chuckled, “Good, good! Heath, come, sit down!”
Heath took a seat next to Aurora, mentioning he had to leave for a business trip the next day and might miss the grandfather’s birthday banquet. He came to join the early celebration, hoping he didn’t mind.
The grandpa warmly welcomed him, saying formalities were unnecessary between their families, Heath lifted his glass, sharing drinks with him, who seemed very pleased.
To the grandfather, Heath was like the ideal grandson–in–law, having always liked Aurora.
The grandfather thought of giving Aurora more shares in the company, seeing her not only as a beloved granddaughter but also as a
successful businesswoman.
During the meal, it was time for cake, but with Heath’s arrival, Little Fish prepared two more dishes. Heath and the grandfather chatted over drinks, while Aurora sat quietly beside them.
Heath, sitting next to Aurora, casually draped his arm over the back of her chair, adopting the posture of a host. Aurora, however, kept her

head down, silently eating her cake, refusing to look up.
The grandfather realized that Heath wasn’t there just for his birthday; he had come to appease Aurora.
After the cake, the grandfather, claiming to be full, stood up. Aurora moved to help him, but Heath’s presence next to her was unsettling. She felt his gaze even without looking at him and wanted to escape.
Before she could speak, the grandfather asked Leen to accompany him to the garden.
Left alone with Heath, Aurora tidied up the table, washed her hands, and went upstairs, shutting Heath outside with a bang.
Heath, slightly embarrassed, touched his nose. For the first time in his life, he had been shut out by a woman, narrowly avoiding a bumped nose.
He knocked on the door, calling for Aurora, but she ignored him. Standing by the window, she refused to open the door, feeling resentful. Shouldn’t he be persisting, trying to coax her?
She felt aggrieved, wondering if Heath really cared about her. Even if she was being unreasonable, couldn’t he indulge her?
Hating her petty and conflicted self, she yearned for his attention, like a child refusing candy but secretly longing for it, tears brimming
in her eyes.
