Aurora pulled her to sit down, sighing, “Next time Alaric starts trouble over Elowen when he’s drunk, don’t intervene. It’s not worth getting hurt, and they don’t care.”

Vespera leaned in, smiling. “I know, you care about me the most.”

Aurora shuddered, pushing her away playfully. “Stop it, I’m straight.”

Vespera teased, “Sure, our Aurora is already taken!”

Aurora blushed, remembering Heath’s confession the previous night, and didn’t respond.

Vespera glanced outside. “Most guests have arrived. Aren’t you going?”

Aurora, engrossed in her phone, replied nonchalantly, “Why the rush? Let Madeline have her moment of glory.”

Madeline, greeting guests at the door with Sebastian, enjoyed a comfortable life in the capital. Though the Pendletons‘ status wasn’t as lofty as in their hometown, Maxwell’s business reputation lent them considerable prestige. Moreover, the family’s old ties with the

Consequently, Madeline relished her role as Mrs. Pendleton, mingling well with the capital’s elite ladies.
