Evelyn’s criticism might have been ignored, but her attack on Vespera irked Aurora.

Just as Aurora was about to retort, Lysander intervened, “I find Aurora’s makeup not so subtle either. What do you think, Alaric?”

Alaric nodded, “Aurora is a popular star. Bold makeup suits her. But you, Vespera, still so young, why such heavy makeup? Elders advising you is only proper.”

Alaric’s words inadvertently cast Evelyn as an elder, seemingly much older than Vespera.

Evelyn shot a glaring look at Alaric but dared not speak out. Alaric, as the CEO of Skyline, had the power to crush her career in the entertainment industry as easily as squashing an ant.

Grandpa approached with a warm smile, asking, “What are you young folks chatting about?”

Evelyn quickly donned a smile, saying, “Grandpa, we were just discussing what birthday gift Aurora has for you!”

Aurora froze. She had no gift.

Her recent argument and cold war with Heath had kept her up at night. Then, rushing to bring her grandfather back to their hometown for his birthday, she hadn’t had a moment to think about a gift.

Aurora offered her grandpa a sheepish smile, remaining silent.

Evelyn saw right through her. Aurora, always so shrewd, had forgotten a birthday gift for Grandpa?

Evelyn could barely contain her glee. This was like Aurora shooting herself in the foot.

“Aurora, where’s Grandpa’s gift? We’ve all given ours. It’s your turn,” Evelyn said with a smile.

All eyes turned to Aurora, curious to see what the notoriously late Pendleton sister had prepared.

Aurora was in a tight spot. Even with all her resources, she couldn’t conjure a birthday gift out of thin air!

Evelyn watched her mockingly, thinking, ‘How will you get out of this one, Aurora?‘

Just then, Jay entered the hall, handing a long gift box to Aurora. “Aurora, you left this in your room.”

Aurora, completely baffled and looking at Jay, stuttered, “Oh, right… I forgot. Thanks.”

Before she could recover, Evelyn snatched the gift box from her hands and presented it to Grandpa, saying, “Grandpa, open it and see. Let’s all see what Aurora has prepared for you!”

The patriarch, holding the gift box, glanced at Aurora. It was clear to him, as it was to Evelyn, that Aurora had not prepared anything.

Yet, he didn’t blame her. Her effort to arrange his trip to their hometown was more meaningful than any tangible gift. He worried, however, that opening the box, which might be empty, would publicly embarrass Aurora.

Aurora was equally nervous, clueless about what Jay had brought and what lay inside the box.

“Grandpa, open it and see!” Evelyn urged, almost ready to tear it open herself.

“Grandpa, Maxwell’s voice suddenly rang out, “the dance is about to start. It’s time for your speech.”

As Maxwell tried to lead the patriarch away, Evelyn grabbed him, insisting, “Grandpa, there’s no hurry. Let’s just see what it is. I’m really

curious!

“Yes, let’s see, Madeline joined in, deliberately blocking Maxwell and holding the patriarch back.

The guests gathered around, whispering and speculating. They wondered if Aurora really hadn’t prepared a decent gift, leaving the patriarch hesitant to open it in public.

Evelyn’s smile widened, believing this to be Aurora’s ultimate folly.

Under the intense gaze of the crowd, Grandpa reluctantly opened the box.

Inside the long box was a scroll. Barely glancing at it, Grandpa was about to close the lid when Evelyn quickly pulled out the scroll. Was Aurora trying to deceive their grandfather with some worthless item?

Evelyn, now holding the scroll, awaited eagerly to expose what she believed would be Aurora’s humiliation.
