Chapter 211
Aurora swiftly pulled out her phone from her handbag and, almost without thinking, dialed Heath’s number.
It was deep into the night, and in the United States, it should have been the wee hours of the morning. Yet, when Aurora called, the phone rang only twice before it was picked up.
A slightly hoarse male voice came through the phone, “Rory.”
Aurora was momentarily startled, “You haven’t slept yet?”
“Mm, still some work to finish, Heath replied.
The sound of keyboard typing occasionally transmitted from the other end of the phone, signaling Heath’s busyness.
“You’re busy, then…” Aurora was about to hang up.
Heath interrupted her, “Did you use the gift sent by Kieran?”
Aurora couldn’t help but smile, “Yes, I did.”
“So,” Heath’s voice carried a hint of laughter, “are you calling to thank me?”
Aurora laughed, “Yes, thank you, sweetheart, for saving me from dire straits!”
“Just verbal thanks?” Heath inquired.
Aurora pouted, “What else do you want?”
“Anything?” Heath asked with a chuckle.
Aurora frowned in dilemma, “Don’t be too outrageous…”
From the other end, Heath’s indulgent, deep laughter echoed, and after a long pause, so long that Aurora thought Heath might have fallen asleep, his magnetic and profound voice came through, “Rory, I miss you.”
Even without being face–to–face, Heath’s simple “I miss you” seemed to traverse the vast ocean and strike right at her heart.
It was as if Heath’s profound longing had indeed crossed the ocean, infecting every cell of hers.
Aurora suddenly missed Heath’s embrace, his smile, and every trivial conversation.
“Rory, do you miss me?‘ Heath asked.
“Not at all!” Aurora firmly denied, knowing Heath was increasingly shameless in saying such things without a hint of blushing or skipping
a beat.
“Really don’t miss me? We won’t see each other for many days,” Heath persisted.

“Heath, I’m busy!” Aurora roared, her high–decibel voice masking her subtle emotions.
After a long silence, Heath laughed helplessly, “Rory, get some rest early, I’ll be back in a few days.”
“Mm,” Aurora nodded.
After they hung up, Aurora stepped out of the corner, about to return to the banquet hall. She walked with her head down, flipping through her phone, and bumped straight into a firm chest.
Aurora apologized in panic, “Sorry! So sorry!”
Lifting her head, she met the gaze of Maxwell.
Seeing Maxwell, Aurora frowned. Their last interaction involved Maxwell, who seemed to be on a wild spree, taking her on a car ride to Silverbay Island’s beach, revealing all the things Heath had kept from her.
Aurora never had a good impression of Maxwell. He had repeatedly expressed his determination to protect his family, tried numerous times to help Aurora out of tight spots, and attempted to distance her from Heath. She disliked such unpredictable people.
In Maxwell’s eyes, just a moment ago, Aurora was sweetly entwined with Heath in the corner, even discussing whether they missed each other, like a woman deeply in love, her face alight with joy.
But the next second, when she saw Maxwell, all her smiles vanished, replaced by coldness and distance, even a hint of disgust.
Even though she had apologized in panic when she bumped into him, recognizing him immediately wiped away any small talk.
In Aurora’s eyes, he, Maxwell, was even less than a stranger!
A heart full of anger, unwillingness, and resentment.
Turned into sarcasm and mockery on his lips.
“Talking to Heath on the phone?” Maxwell asked.
‘It’s none of your business,” Aurora replied, attempting to bypass Maxwell and return to the banquet hall.
Maxwell grabbed Aurora’s arm, looked down at her with a sinister gaze, and asked harshly, “Miss him?”
Frowning, Aurora retorted, “Maxwell, do you enjoy eavesdropping?”
“Ha! Your voice was so loud, anyone passing by could hear,” Maxwell sneered with a scornful laugh,
“So what? Did I disturb your garden stroll? I’ll leave immediately then, not to bother you anymore!” Aurora tried to shake off her arm, unsuccessfully, and demanded, “Maxwell! Let go of me!”
Maxwell stared at her, his grip tightening painfully, “I won’t. What can you do about it?”
“Let go of me!” Aurora was truly angered. Was this man sick? Couldn’t he stop randomly mocking her?

Chapter 211
Maxwell dragged Aurora deeper into the garden, glaring at her and shouting, “You miss him? Planning to go to America to find him? Aurora, is your mind filled only with Heath?”
“Yes, I do miss him! I am going to America to find him! My mind is filled only with him! What’s it to you!” Aurora snapped back.
Pulling out her phone, Aurora booked the earliest flight for the next morning right in front of Maxwell, showing him the screen, “I’m going to the United States tomorrow, see!”
Maxwell was infuriated. What was so good about Heath? How could that inscrutable man truly be wholehearted towards Aurora?
He always thought of Aurora’s best interests, yet in her eyes, he was an unforgivable villain. Why?
Maxwell slapped the phone out of Aurora’s hand and stomped on it, shattering the screen. He glared at Aurora and said, word by word, “You’re not allowed to go anywhere!”
“Maxwell, who are you to me?” Aurora shouted, pulled into the garden in rage.
“I am your family! Heath is a scheming outsider!” Maxwell roared.
“Bullshit!” Aurora couldn’t help but curse.
Maxwell was still gripping her arm, but Aurora raised her hand, grabbed Maxwell’s collar, and shoved him hard against a gazebo pillar.
Her eyes were even more sinister than Maxwell’s, with a threatening air, “Maxwell! What kind of damned family are you? You and your mother are the scheming outsiders!”
“Maxwell! Don’t meddle in my affairs! We are enemies! Always will be! You’ll never compare to Heath in this lifetime!” Aurora’s voice wasn’t loud, but each word struck Maxwell’s heart like a blade, bleeding profusely.
Maxwell reached out, grasping Aurora’s waist. Since when had this simple, unnoticed girl become a confident, powerful woman?
He stared into Aurora’s eyes, his gaze piercing and determined, as if making a vow, “What if Heath was dead? A dead man can never
surpass me!”
The sound of a sharp slap echoed. Maxwell was stunned for a moment, unable to believe Aurora had struck him.
Aurora’s left arm was tightly held, but she raised her right hand and fiercely slapped Maxwell, turning his face aside.
She didn’t know where her courage and strength came from. In this silent, deserted garden, she should have shown weakness and escaped quickly,
But Maxwell said Heath would become a dead man.
Whether to scare her or as a joke, it was too much. Aurora couldn’t even bear to think about what life would be like without Heath, even the thought was excruciatingly painful.
Anyone who cursed Heath had to be silenced.
Whether by hitting, scolding, or even killing him, just to make Maxwell shut up.
So, without any rational thought, she raised her hand and slapped Maxwell with all her might.
With a full–powered slap, a clear handprint appeared on Maxwell’s fair face.
