Aurora arrived at the set to find not only Zane but also Soraya present. She learned that Soraya had aced her audition and landed the lead

female role.

In fact, the film didn’t have a strict lead female character; it was more about balancing the strong masculinity with a female presence. So, they chose an actress to play a character with some emotional entanglement with Gideon, portrayed by Zane.

Soraya had earned the role through a regular audition process, relying solely on her talent, which Aurora had no objections to.

She found a spot to sit and watch Zane act.

The scene was about a comrade sacrificing himself to cover for Gideon. However, Zane struggled to convey the intense guilt and pain one should feel over a comrade’s death.

The director, frustrated after numerous retakes, finally lost his temper: “Zane! What’s wrong with you? Do you even understand what a comrade means in battle?”

Zane was also upset. He couldn’t find the right feeling, believing this film wasn’t his style, feeling unable to fully immerse himself in the role.

Zane was initially cast as the lead because he was a popular choice and his audition for the early scenes of Gideon was impressive. During a break called by the assistant director, Soraya rushed to comfort Zane with a towel, “Don’t worry about it, Zane. The director is just anxious about the film.”

Zane nodded, “I know, I’m anxious too.”

Aurora waved him over. Zane approached, asking, “Why are you here, Aurora? Where’s Cheryl?”

Soraya, following him, briefly looked disappointed when Zane mentioned Cheryl but quickly adjusted her emotions to greet Aurora, “Hello,

Aurora.”

Aurora nodded slightly, “Hello, Soraya.”

Then, turning to Zane, she asked, “What’s the matter? I thought you were known for your acting skills. Can’t you get a grip on Gideon’s character?”

Zane sat beside her, drank some water, and said, “I don’t know! I feel okay, but I just can’t reach the level the director wants.”

‘It’s normal to get scolded by the director if you’re not acting well,” Aurora said.

Zane retorted with a hint of irritation, “What kind of comment is that? Did you see how fierce the director was? He asked if I understood what a comrade is. Of course, I don’t! I bet few people on this set do. Right?”

Aurora paused, reflecting silently. She understood more than anyone what it meant to have a comrade crucial moments, who stand with you through thick and thin, braving storms and gunfire.

Aurora realized why Zane was struggling. He could play Dylan and Gavin, characters whose arcs, regardless of development, culminated in a handsome, charming man romantically involved with a beautiful lead.

This was Zane’s forte, familiar territory where he could add acting flair effortlessly.

But with Gideon’s character, he hit a blind spot.

Zane had never really had comrades. Always independent, even Alaric couldn’t change that. How could he have shared a bond of unity and mutual support with anyone?

Having never experienced such emotions, even his best efforts fell short.

Aurora patted Zane’s shoulder, offering, “I know why you’re struggling with the role. Want me to help?”

Zane looked at her eagerly, “How can you help?”

“Just a crash course,” Aurora replied succinctly.

Zane’s eyes lit up, “A crash course? Where? Take me there!”

Aurora nodded, “Okay, I’ll inform the director.”

After explaining to the director, Aurora took Zane away from the set.

Soraya waved them off with a smile, “Go for it, Zane!”

Zane, also happy, waved back at Soraya and followed Aurora into the car.

Jay drove them to a military area on the outskirts of the city.

Zane was astonished, “The crash course is here?”

Surrounded by soldiers in uniform, it didn’t look like a place for acting…

Aurora confirmed, “Yes, it’s here. How else will you understand Gideon’s mindset?”

Gideon, a spoiled young man forced into the military, looked down on others, never pushed himself, and lived with regret.

Jay chuckled at Zane, “Go ahead, it’ll be fun.”

Zane was speechless.

Aurora pulled Zane inside, handed him over to an officer, and soon, a neatly dressed Zane in uniform reappeared, looking strikingly handsome.

Aurora explained, “Starting today, you’ll live here with everyone, share their life, and understand Gideon’s thoughts.”

Zane was dumbfounded, “Me? Here? You mean stay with them? In a dorm?”

Aurora nodded, “Yes, eat, live, and train together.”

Zane protested, “No way! I have to go back to filming! If I run off halfway, the director will kill me!”

Aurora reassured him with a smile, “The director thinks a brief intensive training will help you better portray Gideon. He’s approved half a month off for you. They can film the supporting roles first.”

Filming a movie wasn’t like a TV series; a half–year project could afford giving Zane half a month if it improved his performance.

Zane clung to his last hope, “But the military camp can’t let me disrupt their routine, can they?”

Aurora shook her head, “Don’t worry, you really can stay for half a month. Heath said to disrupt their serious atmosphere all you want. He’s willing to bet on it.”

Zane was stunned, “Heath? What does he have to do with this?”

Aurora smiled slyly, “This place is familiar to Heat. He knows some people here and can get you in for some training.”

Zane despaired, “What about my brother? Won’t Alaric mind?”

Aurora replied, “No, he’s busy with Vespera and has left you in my care.”

Zane realized he had no escape, “Is there anyone who can save me from this crash course?”

Grasping at Aurora’s clothes, Zane pleaded, “You can’t be serious, Aurora. You’re really leaving me here for half a month?”

Aurora nodded affirmatively, “Yes, I really am that heartless.”

Zane watched the soldiers enduring the harsh sun, knowing his pampered upbringing hadn’t prepared him for this.

Aurora encouraged him, “You can do it. I’ll pick you up in half a month!”

Zane wailed, ‘Does Heath know you’re this ruthless?”

Aurora shook her head, “He doesn’t know. I’m never ruthless with him.”

Zane was left speechless, suddenly bombarded with unexpected affection.

Aurora, observing Zane’s dejected expression, reminded, “Didn’t you ask for a crash course?”
